ATC cruiser Posted July 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2013 For those who have done both, which did you prefer, Alaska or Norwegian Fjords?
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2013 Welcome to Cruise Critic. We have done both and loved both. The Norwegian Fjords are wonderful -- I would do that before Alaska. Going abroad is harder than getting to Alaska.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2013 I think they are both great. It certainly would be easier for you to get to Alaska first. If you select Alaska I would try to find an itinerary that includes Glacier Bay. You can't go wrong with either one. Keith
Guest maddycat Posted July 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2013 We've done both and they were both great. For us Norway was one and done. We've done Alaska twice and would love to go again. The reason that we love Alaska besides the breath taking scenery, is the amazing wildlife....bear, moose, whales, bald eagles.
Dayenu Posted July 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2013 My preferences are in this order: 1) Fjords 2) Fjords 3) Fjords :D
dorisis Posted July 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2013 Norway is best seen on a land trip so I would pick Alaska for a cruise.
cruisinnewfy Posted July 15, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2013 Alaska will be much more affordable, if that matters. The flight to Scandanavia is more expensive and long. Think jet lag for at least one day. Also the prices in Scandanavia are staggering. Coke $5 Beer $8 if you are planning on buying anything off ship. First Alaska and then Norway. If you are European reverse this.

If you are European reverse this. That's exactly what we did. First an Alaska cruise, round trip from Vancouver. Then Norway, which was actually a British Isles and Norwegian Fjords cruise. Then back to Alaska for a cruisetour (5 night land tour followed by a 7 night southbound cruise).
Goldiedog Posted July 16, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 16, 2013 We have done both and Alaska was amazing but we loved Norwegian Ffords and would do them again in an instant.
cruiserking Posted July 16, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 16, 2013 Definitely the Norwegian Fjords. The scenery is epic, the towns, cities and villages are beautiful. While Alaska has terrific scenery the ports are extremely touristy and detracts from the experience. The Fjords are majestic, dramatic and quite awe inspiring.
