Germs and Slot Machines

I think nothing of sitting at a slot machine and pounding the button waiting for a jackpot. However, when my money runs out, and I'm leaving the casino, I rarely see any sanitizing dispensers. This goes for all cruiselines. Shouldn't they be readily available in this area? I usually carry a small bottle of the stuff that I use after each machine, but what about those who don't?

I say that is on them , But I see no difference in holding onto a handrail or pushing elevator buttons , our immune systems are pretty good but not perfect , some get sick regardless , others do not . who is to say .

I head straight for the restroom and wash hands after using the slots. I also try to avoid touching my face as much as possible. Sanitizers tear the skin up on my hands so I prefer soap and water. Other than that, I don't worry about it too much as a healthy adult with a normal immune system.

I have come to the conclusion that people here are germaphobes. You can't sanitize the world. Some germs are good and help build up your immune system. You can't worry about every little thing you touch otherwise you may as well live in a bubble.

I don't touch handrails, I push elevator buttons with my elbow, knuckle or whatever happens to be in my hand, I open doors with a paper towel or my sleeve. On the rare occasions that I have to touch door knobs or elevator buttons, I immediately use a sanitizer. I have severe asthma and am petrified to get sick.

Thank you I just had to click on this thread. People are getting germ crazy. Don't get me wrong I wash my hands when I use the bathroom, before I cook and other assorted times. I just am not gonna worry every time I touch something another human has touched, store doors, car doors. Heck :) I probably touch something someone else has touched at least 30 or more times a day. I come into contact with about 20 or so customers using my pen everyday. I rarely (knock on wood) get a cold or flu.

I'm not spending my life sanitizing either. Just the stress of trying not to come in contact with a germ is enough to get you sick. Normal handwashing is the name of the game. It's been proven overuse of the hand sanitizers is more harmful and being discouraged.

Never seen hand sanitizer stations in land casinos.

Remeber when they used to give out gloves for the slot players? Got several as part of slot club promos. (land casinos)

Maybe but there is still a lot of questions on how effective sanitizer really is. And if there are health risks with using them.

http://health.yahoo.net/experts/dayi...ealthy-or-hype

"Americans spend $175 million on hand sanitizers that claim to kill 99.9 percent of germs, but all too often, we’re not getting the protection we’re paying for. Studies show that sanitizers aren’t very effective against some of the germs we fear most, including colds, flu and the nasty stomach bug norovirus.

However, there’s also research showing that alcohol-based sanitizers can reduce overall rates of GI infections, cut the number of days kids stay home sick from school, and lower illnesses among college students living in dorms.

New studies also raise concern about potential health risks from a widely used hand gel ingredient—and there’s also evidence that many of us use these disinfectants incorrectly. To sift through the confusion, I talked to several infection-control experts.

Hand gels don’t cut through grime.

One type of hand sanitizer actually raises bacteria counts.

Not all disinfectants are equally effective.

Alcohol-based gels and sprays only kill certain microbes.

There’s not much evidence that sanitizers prevent colds and flu

An ingredient in many hand sanitizers, soaps, and deodorants may harm the heart and muscles.

Exposure to everyday germs during childhood may prevent diseases later in life. "

I'm not sure about this, but don't they have a hand-sanitizer machine up near the cashier's desk in the casino.

Thank goodness, you no longer have to reach down below to gather your winnings.

I've always thought it was funny that they "make" us use the sanitizer coming into the buffet, when people sneeze and cough all over it, the buffet that is. I, too open the restroom doors with a paper towel when leaving, but it probably doesn't matter much as I go out and touch other public stuff. Germs are on every door knob, chair seat, handle, the pen you sign your receipts with, etc. You can't get away from them....just go with it and pray you don't catch anything really bad.

That's exactly why I think people are sicker today than ever, most people are trying to sanitize the world and they are not building up an immune system.
