Germs and Slot Machines

I have come to the conclusion that people here are germaphobes. You can't sanitize the world. Some germs are good and help build up your immune system. You can't worry about every little thing you touch otherwise you may as well live in a bubble.

Another like!! Never, ever worry about germs and I don't get sick. Can't remember the last time I had a cold or the flu.

That's exactly why I think people are sicker today than ever, most people are trying to sanitize the world and they are not building up an immune system.

You are correct. Let the kids get dirty. Keeping them sanitized isn't allowing immunity build up. The healthiest kids were allowed to get dirty.

I work in a casino and the slots are wiped down by employees on a routine basis

with sanitizers as often as possible. However I would be more concerned with

the money you just received from the cashier. Really.

But then I handle millions a week and haven't had so much as a cold in over a year.

I think my little antibodies have built so much immunity to stuff over the years I

could out survive a roach.

I work in a public library. There's no place as disgusting as a public library, so comparatively a cruise ship casino seems pretty clean to me.

I'm betting more bills have been stuffed in G-strings than books, but then again I'm sure many books have been read in the bathroom. May be a toss up. :(

You'd be surprised about the things that go on at the library. Though to be fair, I've only found cash in books a couple times ;)

If you are really worried about germs, you could wear surgical gloves at all times. You will also note on pictures of Japan that many people wear masks. I have actually seen Japanese people on ships and especially on tours wearing masks.

When you're talking about thousands of people confined to a ship for a week, then I think you take every precaution possible. There is a reason why there are Purell dispensers at the entrance to all the dining areas and for the buffet they will actually squirt the sanitizer into your hand if you don't do it yourself.

All it takes is for you to see one person come out of the toilet stall after clearly having just had a bowel movement and leave the bathroom without even looking at the sink, and you'll be grossed out enough to use Purell or wash your hands frequently. If you think that's being germaphobic, then I challenge you to go up to that unsanitary man, shake his hand, and then put your fingers in your mouth or eat your hamburger without washing your hands first.

On Oasis of the Seas, there were Purell dispensers at the entrance of the casino.

I think nothing of sitting at a slot machine and pounding the button waiting for a jackpot. However, when my money runs out, and I'm leaving the casino, I rarely see any sanitizing dispensers. This goes for all cruiselines. Shouldn't they be readily available in this area? I usually carry a small bottle of the stuff that I use after each machine, but what about those who don't?

They die. All of them. Do you know what the death rate is for people who don't carry hand sanitizers? 100%. Every single one of them is going to die - and some of them within the next few years, too. Others may struggle on for fifty or sixty more years, but rest assured, they're gonna die.

A cursory glance through Google will show that your kitchen sponge, cell phone, restaurant menus, lemon wedges (put in your drink), condiment dispencers all carry a plethora of germs.

As with the others here, I saddest we all go outside and eat a big handful of dirt. Our body's immune system is trying very hard to keep us well. Some "cures" (think antibiotics) kill ALL bacteria - even the good ones. Threads concerning germs abound.....I suggest you keep your hands away from your face and eat some dirt. :p

How did they enforce the idea of all people making use of them?

Never seen hand sanitizer stations in land casinos.

Remeber when they used to give out gloves for the slot players? Got several as part of slot club promos. (land casinos)

We have hand sanitizers located in several spots around our gaming floor. In particular right next to the ticket redemption and bill breaking machines. You know, where the money is located. :p

In the casino, there's no enforcement of using them, it's just convenient for those of us that want to Purell after we touch the slots or chips that are handled by many people.

But in the Windjammer buffet, they certainly would try to squirt the Purell into your hand if they saw you didn't do it yourself. Of course, there's going to be some that throw up their hands and say leave me alone, and there's really nothing they can do about that. The staff members would thank you for "washing" your hands when you entered if they saw you used the Purell.

Have never seen THIS and would be sure to bypass anyone trying to "squirt" anything into my hands....

I don't touch handrails, I push elevator buttons with my elbow, knuckle or whatever happens to be in my hand, I open doors with a paper towel or my sleeve. On the rare occasions that I have to touch door knobs or elevator buttons, I immediately use a sanitizer. I have severe asthma and am petrified to get sick.

I suspect your cat passes on more germs that effect your asthma than elevator buttons

This thread makes me roar with laughter. Folks are willing to thrown money in machines that return less then 90 cents on every dollar waged (I would be happy to take your money and give you 91 cents on the dollar). Smart gamblers would never wager with those odds (craps and blackjack have the best odds in most casinos). But now, folks that want to give away their money to the casinos are worried about germs?

So here is the thing about this. Casinos love slot players because they are the ones who pay the bills, generate a high percentage of the profits, and require the least labor on the part of the casino. If you are a slot player they will do almost anything to keep you happy. So go talk to the floor or casino manager and complain about the germs. He/she will bend over backwards so you keep donating your money. You will get free Purrell, maybe they will even install special sinks with soap and water :). Anything to keep you at those slots where they keep taking more then 10 cents of every dollar waged.

On each ship that we sailed there were 2 exits, and a dispenser at each one, either inside or outside. If you don't see them, there are many restrooms on each deck to wash and sanitize.

Wow, feel better now? :p No one said anyone was trying to "sanitize the world". Someone posed a question out of concern. If you aren't concerned, then don't be, but there are some people who are concerned about it. Gee.
