Should I wait to request an upgrade?

Hey my fellow CruiseCritics!

I recently booked an impromptu cruise out of NYC for this Sept. The early saver rate was closed, so I know I am ineligible for OBC should the price drop, but I have read that I can try to negotiate an upgrade if I call in.

My price dropped $20- I know its not much, but hey if they can get me a better room I'll take it- it doesn't hurt to ask.

My question is should I wait to see if the price will drop further being that my cruise is still 2 months away, or should I call in now to see if they can give me an upgrade? In your experience does the price continue to drop the closer it gets to sailing (esp. considering that this is not peak time, hurricane season- Sept. 22) My logic is that if I call now and get a minor upgrade, and the price drops down severely later, would they give me another upgrade? I just think if I call and request an upgrade now and I get it, they will only do it once.

No real sweat off my back if I am not granted an upgrade at all, but a deal is a deal and it is at least worth asking for, I'm just not sure if I should risk the price dropping further or going up once we get closer to out sail date.

Thanks for your input!!!

Yeah I doubt it too!

I wish I qualified for the ES rate when I booked, but alas, thats life! I'll probably wait it out- my PVP will think I am super cheap if I called now (which I am- until I get on the cruise of course and buy a million drinks and book spa treatments, blaze my trail in the casino etc.)

I'd rather spend less on the room (we are only in the room to sleep) and then spend more having fun on the ship/in port!

The cheap in me saw the $20 drop and was like awww man! LOL!!!

If the original rate you paid can be matched on what you perceive as a better cabin or location then I would go ahead and call.

I would do a mock booking looking for a specific cabin that I wanted to move to.

I don't think your PVP will think you are cheap, everyone wants to get the best deal available to them.

Inside to a corner balcony!:)

I am hoping for an upgrade call for a suite myself. The last time the upsell fairy called, the offer from my Extended Aft to a Suite was $500.00 more per pax.....

THAT WAS NOT SWEET;):D

You've got that right! Would have left a bitter taste in my mouth.:(

Yay! Either way I got a great deal, but I don't think I'll get much of an upgrade for $20/pp. BUT, I will keep checking and I will call if the price drops. I wish I was able to book ES- just seeing the OBC collect would make me so happy!!

I'll call a few days before to see what deal I can work out for a better room. As I stated earlier I don't need a fancy room since we only spend a few hours in the room a night, but I would upgrade to a balcony for the experience for a killer deal. Calling a few days before sail time may be just my ticket (they still have balconys and suites available :)

Thanks for your input everyone and not judging me for jumping to action at the sight of saving $20- haha!:p
