Loving your review and fabulous job with the photos. Are these straight out of camera or did u do any editing? I'm a professional photographer..going on this cruise in Sept and debating about bringing my expensive equipment. I'd rather use my iphone and a waterproof camera. Do u mind sharing the model numbers of your Olympus cameras? Cant wait to read more!!

I think to myself how much that cruise card was the Key to The Kingdom

..I was up early, parked in my peaceful spot on deck 10.

What is that? A big dark cloud over the island?

Was keeping my fingers crossed it would clear up for our tour.

That looks like our typical Early Morning Showers thing..

they often set-up like that, some areas may get a brief shower

but by the time you guys are coming ashore, that has dissipated

and the rest of the day is clear.

I'm a professional photographer..going on this cruise in Sept

and debating about bringing my expensive equipment.

I'd rather use my iphone and a waterproof camera.

I'm a serious amateur (was pro in another life)..

Here's what I do.

 

I take the Nikon D60 and all lenses

(10.5 mm. fisheye, the Sigma 10-20 and the gen.purpose 18-200 lens)

but I also take my wife's little Nikon point-and-shoot,

which works well as a "Table Camera" in the MDR

for taking snaps (no room on the dining table for a DSLR!).

 

I always take the little Nikon ashore simply because it's lighter and way more convenient!

 

I tend to use the D60 and lenses on board, to take pics of the ship and views from the ship.

I rarely take it ashore because it's just too big and heavy, specially with the Sigma 10-20 :eek:

 

 

You might want to split your options similarly?

We, DH and I, have our key cards from the last sailing of the SS Norway. Those I won't ever give up. They were placed in a scrap book with our pictures. Yes. May 2003. We were on that ship. Makes the muster drill that much more important to me, even though we didn't have to "abandon ship".

Could you scan them? -or photograph them? so we could see what they look like?

Are they plastic? or printed on thin card?

 

The few cruise-cards I have from the early 90's can vary both in material and in size.

Are your Norway cards in the now-standard credit card size? or bigger than that?

We swam all the way out on the right side of the bay until we could see another beach around the rocks. Then was saw deer standing on the beach! What? I never even thought of deer at the beach!

 

On the way back I could tell DH was trying to show me something.

 

Where?

 

What?

 

Oh...sweet!

 

 

 

Back to the beach for a little rest and a look around. These flowers were blooming on the trees everywhere and were all over the ground, so I borrowed a few for a photo opp.

 

 

 

As the day went on, the other end became a little more crowded, but our little corner was nice and quiet!

 

 

I think it was around 1:00 that we decided to head back to the ferry landing.

 

I think those are okra plants. (At least, a member of the mallow family.)

We spent 5 nights post cruise in Vieques. Loved, loved, loved it. You live in such a beautiful place.

It's possible they have a different model from me, but I have the Olympus Tough 630. I found that it takes clear photos.

 

Seeing the pictures of the turtles has me so jealous. I did a snorkel tour while at the Boatyard in Barbados and there were turtles in the spot we were taken out to, but others scared them away and for some odd reason, if some were near me, my camera was never on, so by the time I was ready to snap a picture, they swam deeper in the ocean. :(

 

But I'm loving this review. I will post mine soon. It's a lot. I just uploaded my pictures last night. I was on two weeks after the OP.

 

And to the person who posted about $200 flights into SJU; I wish! My flight on United last year was $297 non stop ($397 was the true price, but I had a $100 credit) from IAH (Houston) to SJU (San Juan). This year my flight on SW from HOU to SJU was free, but I believe the going fare at the time I booked was $700.

 

Can't wait to read more and see how you lived on the cruise. :D

Thanks aplmac...I'm definitely planning to bring my "big girl camera " and some fav lenses for ship photos and old San Juan...but want a decent point and shoot /waterproof camera for our excursions ...hence wanting to know which model Olympus the OP is using :)
