Singer4Him Posted August 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2013 I've seen this a couple of times and would like to know if this is a free tour or if there is a cost involved?
joepeka Posted August 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2013 If you're talking about the "Behind the Fun" tour that takes you all over behind the scenes (and below passenger decks), there is a charge that varies on the class of ship. For Conquest class I believe it's $95 per person.
virginiab Posted August 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2013 I think this does NOT refer to the "Behind the Fun" tour. I think I've seen it in the activities listing on the first day, maybe late afternoon? I think it's a free activity and may include a tour of major public areas. I've never gone to it, so I can't say for sure, but it might be fun, especially for a new Carnival cruiser.
Rare shof515 Posted August 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2013 it is a walking tour of the public areas that is done in the group. I found it easier to walk around the ship by myself
Maraprince Posted August 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2013 It is usually held around 2 or 2:30 the first day when everyone is still either boarding, eating or settling in. Guided walk around the ship. The only way to learn your way around the ship is to get the mini deck layout of the ship when you first board and keep it with you. Everyone gets lost at least once during the voyage! Between the "You are here" wall diagrams of the ship and the mini pocket guide you will be able to get around very well. PPH Posted August 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2013 It's free.
crusinpsychRN Posted August 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2013 It's the free "tour" when a staff member walks you to things like MDR, casino, coffee bar, Lido buffet. Easier to do on your own. Study the ship layout before hand. When you get to the ship at least you have some idea of what's what, but trust me, it will be a bit overwhelming at first and not seem like anything you studied if it's your first time on the ship. Spirit class ships are easiest to get around for me.

Before I even check-in at the pierI have a fairly good idea of where things are on board my ship. I study Deck Plans online well beforehand, so I know what to expect. http://www.cruisecheap.com/ships/all-cruise-ships.html When you find your ship, it's the View link in the far right column. ;) . Oops.... my bad. :o I guess I've never paid any attention to that tour because (like others have said) I try to get familiar with the ship before I leave home. I know some people don't have the opportunity to do that so this little orientation on the first day is probably a good thing.
Rosefloater Posted August 9, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 9, 2013 Better to check out the ship on your own. One time on the Paradise there were over 100 passengers and 1 crew member. If you weren't in the front, you couldn't hear what the crew member was saying.

Singer4Him Posted August 9, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted August 9, 2013 Thanks, everyone, for your input. I usually do look at the deck plans ahead of time, but I wasn't sure what this type of tour was. Sounds like something that we will probably skip. Thanks again!
