I received an good upgrade for my cruise in October. I am really happy with it. But knowing that the box is marked and knowing that the mini suites are not selling well, I wanted to mark my booking as no upgrade. I am on a balcony on the Golden Carib deck. Having the larger deck is more important that the extra inside space for our short trip.

When I called Princess to have it marked NO upgrade, the agent said she did not have a box on her screen. That sounded odd to me because when I called after booking the had the box on the screen and changed it as ok to upgrade.

She contacted a supervisor who said there is no way to mark that and that the only thing that they could do was put a note on the booking. It seems a bit odd, but has anybody else have an experience with this. I am in the perfect cabin now. Thanks.

We have been up graded three of six cruises. Two within the category and one to the family suite. The family suite was nice, but we had both a balcony and an inside booked. I suppose that Princess more that made up for the upgrade.

It can definitely happen. Ive been upgraded twice. In 2010 Alaska on The Diamond, I was upgraded from partial obstructed on deck 8 to a midship balcony on deck 12.

Then just this June, I was upgraded from partial obstructed on deck 8 to an aft balcony on deck 11. That was on The Ruby.

As we need a HC cabin, and always book a balcony well in advance, and have not been upgraded in 23 Princess cruises, I don't think we ever will

For our cruise last summer, we got upgraded from an obstructed view to a "deluxe ocean view" cabin. Those are the cabins with a balcony, but still classed as ocean view because the balcony doesn't have any furniture. They're at the very front of the ship only on the Sapphire and Diamond.

It was a great location for viewing the glaciers. Otherwise, we did not miss not having furniture since it was too cold to want to have breakfast on the balcony.

Sorry, I am still fairly new to cruising. What is a "guaranteed" cabin. I saw a couple of posters mention they have one but don't have a cabin assigned yet????? I'm confused.

A "guaranteed cabin" is when you book a certain category of cabin but not select a particular cabin. A cabin will be assigned anytime between booking & arriving at the pier so some do not like the uncertainty & others are okay with waiting.

It gives Princess more flexibility to fill cabins at a higher price to other passengers & for you the possibility of an "upgrade" to a higher category. Sometimes it's a really good upgrade; sometimes it's only the same cabin in a "better" location; sometimes it's an "upgrade" to a less desirable location; sometimes it's the same category of cabin.

So basically Princess gives those who are flexible a slightly lower price with the possibility of an "upgrade" when booking a "guaranteed cabin".

Interesting! Almost like hitting the casino before you even board the ship.(A big gamble) Thanks for answering my question.

A couple of years ago, I was upgraded on embarkation day . . . I had booked an oceanview cabin and noticed that I was upgraded to a balcony when I checked-in. THAT was quite a pleasant surprise!

Allyn

I had a similar experience when learning at the pier we were "upgraded". Unfortunately it was only to another balcony cabin in a less desirable location for my wife's motion sickness tendency.

I just called Princess and asked what cabins were available in my category because we were thinking of moving. He said that he could put us down to be upgraded. I know that being upgraded is not a guarantee but I didn't even realize princess could put that on your booking. Has anyone else experienced this and been upgraded? Thanks.

We are on a cruise that is not selling very well. Almost everyone who bought a basic balcony has been upgraded to a premium balcony. I am sure looking at the cabins still available many will be upgraded to mini suite and the prices have come down a lot.

Yes, just make sure your booking is marked available to upgrade. I have been upgraded 3 out of six times that I have traveled wit Princess.

Willing to accept an upgrade is the default booking option for all bookings.

We got our cabin assignment today...

No upgrade...

Obstructed Ocean View as booked...

Checked the location and looks like we are between lifeboats...

Not bad for the low price we paid...

Looking forward to trying Princess again...

And seeing Alaska for the first time...

Good luck everyone...

Joe

I also just got assigned on an obstructed ocean view guarantee on Aug 28 Coral Princess. Got an obstructed Ocean view - an accessible cabin so a little bit bigger - quite obstructed by lifeboat but a little bit of daylight shows at the top of the window and that will keep me happy - good central location in the ship -

I am very happy with this cabin -

So assignment 12 days before sailing.

We are thinking about booking a partial obstructed guaranteed cabin. I have a few questions. Is this category always available because I don't see it online. Also, how do I tell which cabins are in the partial obstructed category? I need to make sure we won't end up in a far forward cabin. If there is a chance of that, we probably won't be able to try it.
