Agree with a lot of the others.
No Photos
No Art Auctions
No Bingo
No Disembark talks
No shore excursion talks
Never buy anything expensive in a ship's store
No Mariners Lunch (a great time to eat in the Lido since its not as crowded)
Very few ship excursions
Never Listen to PA announcements related to activities or sales Edited by Hlitner
-we breeze by the photographers

-we never attend any of those events just to get a free glass of that horrible wine or champagne

-we never attend those shopping promotions disguised as port talks

-we never shop at those so called approved stores during port stops
Add.... Never attend Art Auctions ugh!

Add...Never attend "sail away parties by the pool" where you can't see the port disappearing behind you

 • 2 months later...
As the OP and given the recent upheaval in my life AND the fact that this will almost surely be the last cruise Mom and I take together, I have a new list:

I won't nickel and dime myself on vacation. If its something I/we want, we will get or do it.

I won't look at the numbers on the right side of the cocktail menu when I want to toast Mom with a glass of the good stuff.

I won't make myself do something onboard (or onshore) just because it's what I planned.

I won't count calories and will have extra dessert if it sounds good.

I won't pass up the chance for a photo of me and Mom in our formal wear.

I won't be in such a hurry that I forget what's important.

Excellent post. Enjoy your cruise with your Mom, get those pictures and do what you (and she) want. :)

I tend to live by all of these things on every vacation. Many years ago my husband asked that we vacation less so that when we were on vacation we could enjoy anything we wanted without worrying about the cost.

I love the pictures. It's generally the only time I get one of me and hubby together.

I'm not sure what I wouldn't do but I'm always open to try something new. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't but in the end all that matters is that I had time to spend and enjoy with my DH.

Enjoy your vacation with mama. I'm certain she is a blessing to you each and every day.
Thanks jimmy,

Wondering what would be the best way to find those independent operators ? Internet websites ? Or off the ship upon arrival ? Im talking here specifically Jamaica
Viator and TripAdvisor are good websites as also have photos and most importantly, reviews!

Would recommend against picking up a tour on the pier in Jamaica.

No pix... Back when they used film, DH and I would specifically TRY to get our pix taken, just so that they'd waste film.

No MDR.

I wish I could say nothing less than a balcony, but the inheritance hasn't come in yet (j/k).

Complete opposite here.

We don't waste money on silly expenditures or put on the pounds just because we are on vacation. We prefer to live all of life well and vacation often, but you won't find me in a cruise port diamond shop.

We are not cheap. We go on more "big ticket" vacations than just about anyone we know in our peer group (still working full time).

I agree 100% with your last statement, and not just while on vacation.
I saw this thread on another board and thought it might be fun. What typical cruise "thing" have you tired of, learned your lesson about, just didn't like and will never do again?

Let's keep it light please!

I won't bust my butt to get to the suite cocktail party the first evening on board. Sounded like a fun way to start the cruise, but it was, to me, a crowded room, bad wine, and too much noise. Appetizers were yummy, but the first day it's just too much for me to enjoy.
I won't go to a 'past cruisers' party again.
I won't play Bingo again.
I won't go to an Art auction again.
I won't go to port shopping talks.
I'd never go to spa on ship.
There are some types of evening programs I won't go to again. Edited by NMLady

Not necessarily silly expenditures, but I understand what you mean. The very first trip my Mom and I took together, without Dad and without DH, was a land trip to France. At one small village I saw a ring in a shop, shaped and spotted like a leopard, that wound around your finger. It was too cheap to be real, to expensive for costume jewelry and I let myself be talked out of it. I still regret passing it by to this day - that was 23 years ago. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Fortunately because I'm so much more active on cruises that at home, I can indulge in the extra dessert when I can't make up my mind and not suffer the consequence. I always take the stairs and avoid elevators completely.

Some of the posters seem to avoid everything. I like to occasionally have my picture taken, love bingo, always buy the spa package and enjoy the towel animals. I won't do the art auctions, or buy jewelry onboard or in port. I do like to relax in the crow's nest and read to my heart's content. Eating is always a must do.
