Announcements, Pronouncements & Opinions - Oasis, September 2013

Remember, these are my observations and my opinions. For some, I will let you know my bias. On others, it's just information, folks.

1. Casual is the word of the day. Throw out the suggested dress codes. Shorts, flipflops, tank tops seen in Giovanni's Table tonight.

2. Who are these people who have been complaining about the food in the MDR on Oasis????? Either RC heard you and did some work, or you are all crazy. Our food in the MDR has ranged all the way from very good to OMGYUMMY.

3. Oasis is always warm. You know how people tell you to bring a sweater in case the airconditioning is too cold? Fuggedaboudit.

4. Our junior suite this cruise was fantastic. <sigh> It will be so difficult to go back to a regular balcony next week. Well, at least I won't have to share. My daughter was sailing with me this week, but next week I shall be solo.

5. Ask and ye shall receive. Do not sit and stew about what you "used to get." So you now have to ask for ice? Ask for it. You will get it. So you now have to ask for toiletries? Ask for them. You will get them.

6. Much discussion about Amy Fickert on these boards. She is a lovely young woman. That's about it.

7. Captain Patrick Dahlgren. <sigh>

8. Don't miss the Splish Splash dive show.

9. There were some problems with the Aqua Theatre pool after the first Splish Splash show, and they cancelled the second one. I just want September 7th cruisers to be forewarned.

10. Hairspray is wonderful.

11. Come Fly With Me is wonderful.

12. Frozen in Time is wonderful.

13. This week's comedians, Kivi Rogers and Gary Delana, were hysterical.

14. Headliner Kenny James (rccl web reservations lied to me and told me that it would be Earl Turner) was GREAT.

15. Casino wavers back and forth between friendly and cruel.

16. Friend hit a nice big jackpot on a slot machine.

17. Concierge Lounge is also very casual. NO RULES. Want to take a drink out? Go ahead. No sneaking necessary.

18. This week, CL was crowded; DL was empty-ish.

19. Nice and friendly photographers. Very non-pushy. Got some nice memories.

20. It has been so much fun seeing the Oasis through a new-to-Oasis cruiser's eyes.

MORE LATER.

Earl Turner was the headliner for our Oasis Cruise on July 6. At the end of the show he told us that his son, Aaron, was on "So You Think You Can Dance."

Well, Aaron is now in the FINALS. The winner will be announced next week. His dad, Earl, and Mom have been in the audience for the last few weeks. Pretty good reason for not being on the ship;) His son is terrific. I voted for him many times and hope he wins:)

Thanks for the update. That IS a good "excuse". :)

More stuff:

Service in the MDR was also excellent.

Drink prices are still quite reasonable, unless you can get $2 drinks at your local American Legion Hall at home.

Sorrento's pizza is quite edible. Beware the guy in front of you who asks for and gets the last 20 slices!!!

It was hot hot hot last week. Here's hoping that this week is just hot. :)

COZUMEL BAR HOP COZUMEL BAR HOP COZUMEL HOP

Rafting on the Martha Brae in Jamaica was good fun.

Security guard posted outside the door of a cabin near ours for the second of the cruise 24/7.

No rude smokers observed.

Not too much rudeness in general was observed.

Lots of dressed-up folks on formal night. Strong contrast to the I-don't-care crowd.

Bare feet observed quite a bit - inside.

No underwear spotted on Boardwalk balconies. ;)

FOURTEEN Pinnacles on board!!!!

We won Progressive Trivia. :D

No rowdiness or drunkenness observed.

Under-the-counter outlets have been remedied.

So glad to hear you're having such a good time, Carol. :)

I know we found that to be the case in our JS last year... not sure that they've fixed the problem in the regular balcony cabins. Would you mind clarifying that for us next week?

All of your observations are making me so excited for our trip on Allure in November! I hope it is just as good.

And we did the Cozumel Bar Hop a few years ago, and it was just fantastic. DH and I still talk about it.

Yes.

This week I am in a boardwalk balcony. Outlets on top. :)

Ah the Welcome back Snack Box.

What can I say?

When they first came out, people pooh-poohed them and I said, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."

It was a pack of nuts, a pack of trail mix, a package of fake cheese, and some crackers.

WELL.......

Now it is a small package of dried candied fruit and some little cookies.

BLECH.

OH, and at the Aqua Show the other night, they tried to sell us popcorn.

POPCORN.

You know, the stuff that everyone raves about that Princess gives away every night.

Too bad, we like to take those bins (along with the individual drinks) to the beach with us.

Good to hear about the MDR food, though.

Hello Merion_Mom, I'm with you, I loved just about everything on Oasis! BTW, while most for-a-fee restaurants on any Royal ship are always Smart Casual, Giovanni's table is always Casual. Don't know about tank tops and shorts, although I do know those are not permitted in the MDR at dinner, even on Casual nights, although I have seen that rule broken, and not just on the first night of the cruise.
