AnonymousCruiser69 Posted September 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2013 I found this somewhat amusing. From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/24/travel/gallery/crazy-airline-liveries/index.html?hpt=hp_c4
kenish Posted September 25, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2013 About 10 years ago, 3M invented very large decals and the printing process. That led to all the custom and one-off liveries on planes, the "wraps" on cars, the the conversion of city buses to rolling advertisements. (I'm surprised that the ANZ All Blacks scheme is painted and not a decal, according to the caption). Back in the day when SoCal was an aerospace empire, the McDonnell-Douglas factory was in Long Beach. My friend was an engineer in the paint department. Everything was done by masking, taping, and stenciling. The name of a Middle Eastern airline was painted backwards in Arabic script! It turned out the wrong side of the stencil was marked as the outside....at least it wasn't upside down too!

Zach1213 Posted September 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2013 I thought Wunala Dreaming was painted over and returned to normal Qantas livery? Also, Air NZ has multiple planes of multiple types in the all blacks paint job. Back in November I flew in both an A320 and, I believe, ATR (42 or 72, can't remember) in that livery. I miss the Western Pacific "The Simpsons" paint job myself...
