I realise that people are taking this question as a joke, but in the event of an emergency, passengers must go to their muster stations and follow directions from the crew. They are well trained and do drills every few weeks.

During the recent incident on the Dawn Princess, there was a long delay because 51 people could not be located for quite a long time. For the last couple of years Princess scans everyone's cruise cards in the muster station and if people are not where they are supposed to be, it adds to the confusion and also adds to the delay in the event people have to be evacuated.

Without doubt, passengers must take their life jackets, warm clothes etc. and go directly to their muster station. If everyone was running around heading for the nearest lifeboat there would be chaos, confusion and possible loss of life.

If I was in a public area - I would straight to the muster station - no diversions for documents etc - if I was passing the pool deck to get there - I'd swipe a couple of towels to keep warm - if I was in evening attire - off would come the shoes - straight to the muster station - I wouldn't even dream of going to the cabin for anything - they have life jackets all around the ship - and if you are not in your cabin when there is an emergency - don't make your way there. I am a fire warden - and I am appalled at the number of people who scrimmage for handbags, phones, and then leave the building. So that type of attitude on a grand scale would be a logistical nightmare. I know I threw a casual reply further up - but seriously - I would do exactly what I was supposed to do - I wouldn't run, push, change direction, I would go straight to my muster station. Documents can always be replaced - but lives can't.

Oh yes, I would have my cabin card it would be either on a lanyard - (casual) or in my evening purse which has a wrist strap (card still on the lanyard) so I can be identified at muster - and if I didn't - I know I'm me :p

After reading this and the recent fire on the Dawn, I'll always have my cruise card with me ( we usually just take one when going out for the evening). Agree that it's not such a good idea to return to one's cabin, but risky if essential medications are kept there...plus there may not be enough life jackets handy.

In the recent incident on the Dawn passengers were instructed firmly by the Captain to ALL return to their cabins. Apparently the situation was not urgent or dire. Although we had not been told to, once there, we gathered our warm jackets etc and I changed into warm clothes and exchanged high-heeled shoes for sneakers and socks. I also put medications and a few valuables in a small shoulder bag. We had to assume that if events deteriorated we would not be able to return to our cabin to get things. We then waited (a fair while) for further instructions from the captain before going to our Muster station.

After watching events on the Dawn, I believe it is important that everyone has their own cruise card with them because these are scanned at the muster stations to account for everyone.

I agree, the cruisecards are most important for accounting for everyone. It is small so even when dressed for the evening, I cannot imagine someone not having their card with them.:D

My kids don't have their cards on them - ever. They would be highly likely to lose them so it's not worth it. We carry them with us on our lanyards.

In the event of a disaster, kids club is supposed to be escorted to their muster stations by the staff. In a serious situation (with the addition of panic & chaos) I imagine parents would be running around the ship searching for their kids. It is possible kids & parents may not be reunited before having to abandon ship. It's a nightmare scenario I hope will never happen.

Would be interesting to know what happened aboard the Dawn Princess recently that travelled with children........

The CD commented that there were four children on board who were spending time in the kids' club. When everyone was told to return to their cabins there would have been plenty of time for parents to collect their children from the kids' clubs if they were not already with their parents. There was more of a problem with people who were in wheelchairs/motorised scooters or ill and that would have been a nightmare for the crew if passengers had to go into lifeboats.

I wasn't suggesting that children should carry their own cruise cards. That is up to the parents to decide on the best course of action. I know a lot of people only carry one cruise card between then on the ship, but this incident demonstrated why this is not a good idea.

I agree, Kids are an issue, and if they cannot have their cards on their lanyard, then the parents should probably carry them as well. As for collecting kids, in an emergency, any kids in the kidsclub will be taken to the muster stations by the staff.:D
