1st time cruisin' Royal Caribbean

Hey guys!

I just booked my DH & I our first RC cruise. We have cruised twice now on Carnival and thought we would give RC a try. We book the Mariner of the Seas and it looks amazing! Yet I do have a question. We are on a budget and have selected an interior cabin. The RC cruise specialist was trying to tell us we needed to pay a little more to be up higher in an interior cabin because it's in a better location and we won't feel the ship move as much. My questions are is it worth the money and is the location really better? Right now we are booked to Deck Six, Interior Stateroom #6487. Also where do you fly into for Port Canaveral, Florida is there an airport there or do you fly into Tampa? THank you for all your help, I LOVE THESE BOARDS!

I have been on RCCI on the 8th deck mid-ship inside cabin, I not only could feel the motion (in the bathroom) but could see the liquid inside some of the bottles going from side to side. I have heard that the lower the better for not feeling the movement.

stayed in a interior cabin on deck 6 and they did have any problems with motion, this was on the navigator, but it's the same layout as the Mariner.

 

Were flying into Orlando (MCO) for our Mariner cruise.

My husband and I are booked on Mariner on 9/4 and are counting down the days...I hear she is a beautiful ship! We are flying into Orlando from Philadelphia, I was told that was the closest airport..we'll fly in a day ahead because of the time of year and not wanting to take any chances on missing the boat, weatherwise. We sailed on Adventure 3 years ago and were on deck 6, we had a balcony cabin at that time, but still, being on deck 6, we didn't feel much motion from the ship at all. The seas for the most part when we sailed were very calm, the only time we really felt the movement was when we were in the theater in the evening watching the shows, other than that...no problem and even at that...it was just like a rolling movement, nothing you can't handle. Hope this helps you a little...just our opinion, this time we are trying out deck 9...we've never been that high up...not sure what that will feel like.

This september going on Carnival Miracle, and thought next year would try a RC. My DH is soooo excited, he thinks the Mariner looks way better than the other two Carival ships we have been on!

I think your TA must've been looking for an extra few dollars.....truth of the matter is the lower down, more mid-ship you are, the least motion is felt.

You've got a great cabin and it is true that the motion is less the lower and the more mid-ship you are.

The trip from Orlando to Port Canaveal is an easy drive, and as I recall we made it in about 2 hours. If you are in a car, that port is the easiest I have ever been in for parking while you are on a cruise. We drove to the beach the day we arrived, and then had a relaxing morning before boarding the ship.

I think the drive is about an hour at the most.

We haven't done the drive from MCO to Port Canaveral yet, but we have a cruise on the Sovereign in December, and have been researching this issue. Everything that I have seen says "45 minutes to an hour."

The only upgrade i'd pay for is an inside to a prominade, these rooms are really cool, and well worth the few extra $$.:o

We flew into Orlando Internation Airport and we took a shuttle ($30.00 roundtrip) to Port Carnival. Deck Six is fine for a cabin (you only feel movement on the lower decks like 2 or 3).

The drive is only about 45 minutes. You will have a WONDERFUL time!

From someone that ALWAYS books the cheapest room available, keep what you have. I don't think the motion will be a problem AT ALL in what you have and the extra money can be put toward side trips, souvies, or Labadoozies! :)

 

My next cruise will be my 4th with RCCL, but first on a Mega-ship. I LOVE LOVED the Majesty! Sailed her twice. I'm not sure what to expect out of a mega ship, but I'm really looking forward to it! I'll be sailing over Thanksgiving!

Sorry, but that is simply contrary to the laws of physics. You feel less motion as you go lower and closer to the center of a ship.

Stay where you are for cabin location. The lower you are on the ship, the less movement you feel. That is why they put the ice rink in the lower part of the ship (deck two) and center, where there is less movement.

 

The drive from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral is about an hour.

 

Mariner of the Seas is a beautiful ship! Royal Caribbean has excellent service! Have an amazing time on your cruise!!

about 45 mnutes. I always use Cocoa Beach Shuttle.
