cruiserami Posted December 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I am a cruise-aholic. At 48 yo, I've been on 17 cruises. Up to now, however, they have all been with my recent ex-husband. Part of my moving-on process is to continue doing the things I love. This February, I'm going with my parents and Brother and Sister-in-law on the Freedom. I'm worried that I'll dwell on all of our past cruises. Does anyone here have any experience with this?
chill6x6 Posted December 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2013 JUST got back from my first solo cruise without girlfriend. Never cruised without her before. To say it was the best cruise I have ever been on would be an understatement! Cruise on without fear or worry!
Lilmatcat Posted December 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2013 A different situation over here, but some similarities so I will share. My husband and I had cruised several times together and he passed away in 2012. I have been on a few cruises since and although there are reminders of him on each cruise I don't dwell on him every day. I'm still there to enjoy myself and that's what I do. I hope you will have a fantastic sail!!
cruisinbanddirectors Posted December 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I'm cruising with my son without my husband for the first time very soon. I'm excited but also a little sad my DH can't go. Also a little nervous I will forget something he normally takes care of. I know we will be fine once we get there. BetMax Posted December 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2013 After my divorce I went on a solo cruise. I made friends with a number of crew, especially in the casino. Had a great time and have kept in touch over the years. Now I cruise with the best cruise bud ever and have the best cruises ever. I'm worried that I'll dwell on all of our past cruises. Does anyone here have any experience with this? I was married 37 years. My ex was my best cruise partner, we understood unspoken things on board. My first was a solo, not with family support, and it was great, yet sad, especially elegant night. It's now 6 years later, he died, but he still goes with me in spirit, because he so loved cruising. But, then again, I have not met anyone to make new memories with, so that's my drawback. Rare mom says Posted December 7, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I'm worried that I'll dwell on all of our past cruises. Then make a conscious effort not to go there. You aren't travelling alone. Live in the now while on your cruise. Concentrate your attention on those with you and around you. Get involved with ship board activities and shore excursions. Attend the meet and greet and make some new friends. Just enjoy this as a completely new experience and don't compare it to the past.
slidergirl Posted December 7, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I've been there. At least you are stepping out, going places. Make the decision to have fun! Instead of doing the same, old things you did on cruises, you are free to explore other options!!! Remember - YOU get to do what YOU want to do - you don't have to confer with anyone else!! Treat the cruise as a celebration of YOU, not a remembrance of what you had.

Alliezona09 Posted December 7, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Is there anything that you wanted to do on a cruise that your Ex didn't?? If so DO IT~! BetMax Posted December 7, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 7, 2013 My ex said she would never cruise again. That's great. It means I will never run into her on a ship.
Out of Iowa Posted December 8, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Despite having requested two twin beds online with my booking and also in conversation with my PVP, my cabin was made up with the twin beds as the King. This was too freaky for me! Yes, at home I sleep in a new, mega-sized bed that I selected for the new home - but I left a note and handsome tip so the room steward would split it into two twins. Shortly thereafter, I joyously used the spare bed for my suitcase and souvenirs. Returning to an empty cabin with a bed-for-two would have been too stressful so soon after the divorce. As for the rest, I attended new events and enjoyed myself so much! Go forth and have fun!

griffy116 Posted December 9, 2013 #17 Share Posted December 9, 2013 Sorry, but when I took my first cruise after my divorce, I felt like someone that had taken off a tight pair of shoes! I did what I wanted, when I wanted and thoroughly enjoyed knowing that I was on a cruise and he wasn't. I've cruised many times since then and I love it and enjoy it. I haven't given the first thought to cruises WITH him, just the next cruise that I will be taking and the enjoyment I get out of cruising.
