Teenagers in their own room?

I booked two balcony rooms for my family for Alaska and put one adult and one teen (two girls age 17 and 14) in each for the booking. Will Princess let me change who's key opens which room or do we constantly have to swap cards so that the kids can get into their room and the adults into ours and then re-swap to get on and off the ship?

Just go to the Passenger Services Desk after boarding and ask for new cruise cards for the cabin(s) you want. You can even get non-charging keys for your cabin to give to your daughters.

 

When you tag your luggage, put the cabin tags on the bags you want in that cabin so they are delivered to the right cabin. For instance, you and your husband plan to share a cabin but he is booked in another cabin. Just put the tag for the daughter booked in your cabin on his bag and put your husband's tag on your daughter's bag.

Your kids are old enough to just book them in their own room right off the bat. You can still request a spare key so you have one to their room once on board (go to the passenger services desk and they will give you a key).

 

Is there a reason you booked them in separate rooms with each adult? It sounds like they are going to be actually staying in the room by themselves, right? By the way, when we cruise with our kids, we always use lanyards and my wife and I keep our key own key card with a key card for the kids room on our lanyard.

I believe someone booked in each room has to be 21 years of age. Who actually stays in the rooms is entirely up to you.

We have traveled with our children on a number of Princess cruises. As long as one child is 16 years old (or older ) they can stay in a room with a younger sibling/child without an adult in the same room.

Definitely make sure that your booking is marked "no upgrade" and tell your TA (or Princess agent) that moving cabins would be unacceptable (I'm assuming your cabins are close by).

We booked many cruises on Princess with two cabins when our girls were older ... normally they were across the hall from us. We had a key card for theirs and they had one for ours ... No Problem. :)

 

Note Patty's suggestion of having your TA say "No Upgrades".

While this is their policy they don't enforce it. Had three small children (oldest was 12) in the cabin next to ours a few years ago and Princess wouldn't do anything about it. We haven't cruised Princess since.

 

To the OP, you will not have a problem especially if your daughters behave. Based on my experience you won't have a problem even if your daughters don't behave :eek:

Absolutely incorrect. They could not have been booked that way at all.
