Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2014 Princess sends the second class ships to Australia. Perhaps other Princess line ships will also be upgraded as per Sun over time.

The Sun Princess has had some upgrades but these were aimed at the Japanese Market Just got off The Sun yesterday. It does have an International Café & Sterling Steak House. The upgrades were new carpeting, refurbishment of & new furniture plus new plates etc in Horizon Court, recovering of seating in most areas. Only area re-done for Asian market seems to be the addition of Kai Sushi.
NSWP Posted January 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Our next cruise on the Sea Princess will be our first as Platinum. Is the Platinum/Elite/Suite Lounge available on the Australian based ships, ie: Dawn, Sea and Sun? None of that, one of the reasons I no longer sail on the Aussie Princess ships, high pricing is another reason. Princess does not give a toss about us in OZ. Not second class ships, we get the hand me downs the Yanks no longer want to travel on, same with the P&O Australia ships, more hand me downs. I am sure space could be found for the Elite lounge on the 3 'Sun Class ships here. Elite members and others are being deprived of their Captains Circle benefits, I can tell you having cruised with many, many Americans and Canadians, they would not put up with it. Good question to put to Ann Sherry, CEO Carnival Australia, where is our Elite lounge ? Edited January 13, 2014 by NSWP
Flipper133 Posted January 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Our next cruise on the Sea Princess will be our first as Platinum. Is the Platinum/Elite/Suite Lounge available on the Australian based ships, ie: Dawn, Sea and Sun? As already stated, the Sun Class ships in Oz are getting on a bit. But whilst there may not be a Specific lounge for VIPs, there are the perks of platinum that are worthwhile...eg: Priority Embarkation; priority dis-embarkation, where they do use the Vista lounge for you to assemble and grab some coffee and nibbles; a reasonable free internet allowance; and priority boarding of tenders when necessary. Some of the upgrades to the Sun P included a re-classification of some cabins, including the balcony cabins on Riviera deck which have apparently now been downgraded from Cat A to Cat C cheers

The_Big_M Posted January 13, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Second class ships? Or just smaller ships for a smaller market? The local ships operating here are the best sized to visit local ports. Larger ones can't visit a number of ports or have to be further out, hence aren't suited. I remember the outcry when Diamond Princess had to use tenders in one local port, and how long it took.
NSWP Posted January 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) I just like the complimentary laundry, great on long cruises, which we do. Plus the generous internet and a few cordials in the cabin fridge. We will probably only have a fleeting visit to the Elite lounge on Golden Princess, sampling the $5 cocktail of the day and such lounge is up in Skywalkers (the pram handle aft.) As for the first time in 16 cruises doing 1st sitting dinner @ 6pm on Golden Princess and @ 6.30pm on Arcadia. Always done 2nd, but eat too many snacks and drink too much between happy hour at 5pm and 8.30pm. Age has a bit to do with it too. So if I drink a bit less we can handle the 10% fall in the AUD v the USD. My theory anyway. Edited January 13, 2014 by NSWP
Kiwi_cruiser Posted January 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2014 None of that, one of the reasons I no longer sail on the Aussie Princess ships, high pricing is another reason. I guess the pricing is depending on the cruise, and where you want to go etc.. As we have done a couple of cheep cruises with Princess AU, even this next Princess cruise we are doing is a cheap one :)

Always had priority for tenders. Embarkation probably not exactly "priority" but at least you get to use the lounge. That said, after being a little spoilt by Celebrity Solstice last year, I doubt if we will cruise Sun class again.

Not sure how you managed to get priority for tenders with Platinum as we had to wait until we reached Elite level to take advantage of this benefit. NSWP Posted January 13, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Two years since I was on Princess, do Elites these days get priority tender tickets left in their cabin or is it produce one's Elite Card at the tender point? I think we have dealt with both methods, been Elites since 2008.

Les you show your card....on some tender ports if a lot of elites onboard you might have to meet in one of the night club and get escorted to the tender area, happened to us in Lombok Indonesia

K-Roo-Zers Posted January 14, 2014 #22 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I wonder whether the lounge will be available on Diamond for the Japan season. Considering that last year the majority were Japanese cruisers (on Sun Princess), with blue cards, I am interested in what they might do. There were not too many Elites - one benefit was the laundry was back very quickly! Nicki
3littlepigs Posted January 14, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 14, 2014 We did a short cruise on Sun Princess and decided it wasn't for us for a number of reasons but the real deal breaker is the lack of anytime dining.
