iuki Posted January 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2014 On our last cruise, DH and I lost each other for over an hour. I had gone to the ladies' room after eating at the buffet. So, we were to meet at the pool. He went to the aft pool and waited for me, and I went to the main pool and waited for him. I finally gave up and went back to the room. He showed up at the room shortly thereafter. How do you find each other? There will be six of us on FOTS in April and can imagine how difficult it could be finding each other. Any suggestions? CruiserBruce Posted January 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) It really isn't that difficult. The ships aren't really that big- lots of space is taken by cabins, and facilities that are limited time use, like the show lounges and the dining rooms. It sounds like in your case, you just needed to be a little clearer on the meeting place, as in, which pool you were meeting at. Apparently when he got out of the restaurant, he turned left instead of right. In fact, I had even gone to the aft pool to see if I could find him there. But didn't see him. We were probably like two ships passing in the night. :D I was hoping for some tips from other cruisers. We usually tell each other that if we don't find each by a certain time, go back to the room. That's obviously why he came back to the room shortly after I got back to the room. Oh well. ;)

If we go to the centrum when we're lost, we can look down from several decks above looking down the stairs or via the glass elevators. :)
iuki Posted January 13, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Walkie talkies would work. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Forums mobile app I've thought of that; but other cruisers might get annoyed or it might interfere with crew members communicating with each other on their walkie-talkies. Thanks for the input though.

marlahooch Posted January 13, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2014 We have always had a central meeting place, where if we got separated we knew we could go to that place to find each other. Last cruise it was a large table right next to Guys burgers and the pool. We had a large group so there was always one of us from the group sitting there. amstelncv Posted January 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2014 There are phones everywhere you can use to call the room's. This is useful when someone stays in the room and is going to meet you somewhere, and you decide your going to be somewhere else before they get there just dial the room and say where you headed. Donder1 Posted January 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2014 I ewally dislike hearing folks on walkie talkies. There are many threads here discussing this issue. That said, our usual place to lose each other is the Lido Buffet. I do a lot of walking around to find my wife.:) Exercise is good!
SuitCaseBears Posted January 14, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 14, 2014 1. we're always clear when we say where and when we'll meet. 2. we have a default meeting place (our cabin) if either person isn't at the default place within a certain amount of the scheduled time 3. We set a "how long to wait" which depends on the circumstances. If I'm going to the shops and he's going to take pictures we might say 10 minutes since in theory we can both control how long we'll be. If he's going for a massage and I'm going to a class we might say 20 min. 4. our rule is he does not move from wherever it is he thinks we're meeting - I move if I want to during the 15 minutes before we both go to the cabin. This is because he's usually clueless about where I might be and I usually have a good idea where he might be if not where I though he'd be. So far we've never had to get as far as going to the cabin. Either we meet up as planned or I find him because he's waiting in only one place and not moving around. Cras108er Posted January 14, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Never had the problem. Generally, we have a schedule of what we plan to do, so its not really that difficult to find each other. Just go to the "next stop." If we happened to get separated for an hour or so, we're big enough to take care of ourselves. lol

jamieann77 Posted January 14, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Go back to the cabin frequently if you're not together. Take a post-it note pad and pen so you can leave each other notes (also good for leaving notes for your steward). Figure out the most common places the others like to hang out. It was easy for me last time because my husband pretty much stays in a lounge chair by the main pool ALL DAY. I can't do that (fair skin and ADD!). And our daughter was either with us or at Camp Carnival. This upcoming trip in a few weeks will be more complicated because my parents are also going. Although, they'll likely be in the casino or private balcony! And I'm thinking of letting 9 y/o DD check herself in and out of Camp Carnival, which makes me a nervous wreck though. Fortunately our room is on the lido deck, so she won't have to be taking elevators or many stairs by herself, and again, my husband will often be by the pool. And she's pretty paranoid anyway, so I don't think I have to worry about her being alone with any questionable people.

EdmPair Posted January 15, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Lost on a cruise ship. That is a very first world problem. If I 'misplace' my man, I am still at sea and will tour the boat looking for him and looking at the waves. Sometimes it is more looking for him and sometimes it is more looking at everything else. Before the next meal, I will return to the cabin but I assure you I suffer not separation anxiety as much as I care for him.

Educated guesses to where someone might be at a given time aren't hard to make. Voicemail on the room phone works wonders.
Bookish Angel Posted January 15, 2014 #25 Share Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) If my husband and I can't find one another after 15 minutes, we both return to the last spot we were together. This has worked over almost 20 years of marriage all over the world on land and at sea. It helps if you are a visually observant person. On the ship, you could just meet back at your cabin after a a certain time apart. Edited January 15, 2014 by Bookish Angel
