Shorts?

There is a dress code at night:

"Smart Casual & Above" attire includes:

Ladies: Skirt or pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a sweater or blouse. Gentlemen: Pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a sports shirt or sweater. Shirts must have sleeves.

"Formal" attire includes:

Ladies: Cocktail dress, gown, or dressy pantsuit. Gentlemen: Tuxedo, suit, or dinner jacket with slacks. Only required in the Main Restaurant on formal evenings.

The dress code in Celebrity’s specialty restaurants, including Blu for AquaClass guests, is “Smart Casual & Above” for every night of the cruise, regardless of the evening dress code in the main restaurant.

Note that T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurants at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours but are acceptable for lunch. The appropriate dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. Additionally, you are asked to follow the "Smart Casual & Above" dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances.

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. A casual dress code applies at all time onboard Celebrity Xpedition®.

First time with Celebrity, does this mean no shorts?

"Daywear includes slacks or pants, blouses or shirts, knit tops or polo shirts. Bring a pair of sneakers or rubber-soled shoes for deck sports and a swimsuit cover-up for cool areas on the ship.

Shorts every day on Caribbean cruises. We have also worn shorts on some evenings where we were just eating in buffet after a long excursion day. Never seen shorts in MDR or theater or casino at night.

First evening I always wear shorts in the MDR. We always have early Traditional in the MDR. After that I follow the advertised evening dress guidelines.

Its what I thought, but I after I read that made me think a bit about is it ok or not :)

I am actually excited to know that this line doesn't allow shorts in the MDR, this is ONE thing I hate about Carnival...walking in and people in sandals, tank tops and everything in-between.

Thanks again!

I have worn shorts on Celebrity since 1994, just not to dinner in the MDR or speciality. You will be fine.

I love wearing my shorts all over. Wish I could have used them in MDR, but the fashion police were in a uproar. :) but alas I cave and wear jeans instead and still get the evil eye from some :D, then back to shorts after dinner.

Nope we like shorts, but we respect the "rules"

Maybe you should read my original post to see the reason for my post.

Thanks everyone! I figured as much, but wanted to make sure.

Always wear shorts even to mdr nobody cares why should you ,

Are you the shorts police .

shorts are only banned in the MDR during dinner.

however please also leave the Daisy Dukes at home.

*side note: if doing a Med cruise and you plan on doing some sightseeing in Historical and religious buildings, no shorts allowed there either

Just to reiterate, you CAN wear shorts in the MDR on the first night. Lots of people haven't gotten their luggage yet and the rules are relaxed that evening. Of course, there are people who plan for this and bring a change in their carry on bag or wear long pants for embarkation.

Love the fun replies and photo!! I have a long black skirt that I'll wear often. Dress it up, or wear it with a tank top, but I'll be "safe" then. No need to look foolish or make others uncomfortable especially when you know "the rules" ahead of time. It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed!

I like your attitude! I wore a simple, comfortable but elegeant dress when I boarded our cruise just to be 'safe' if luggage doesn't arrive in time.

The only time I felt underdressed was when the maitre d' in the MDR allowed us in wearing blue jeans and fleece. We had returned from an excursion (an Alaskan cruise), and stopped by the MDR to see if there would be a wait for a table or if we could put our name down while we went to our room and changed. The maitre d' said that, on excursion days, they relax the rules and that we could walk right in and have a table.

We did so, and there were several other people dressed similarly. However, I did feel like a bit of a slob, and I agree that it's better to feel fancier than necessary.

There are cruise lines where this would be OK, but not on Celebrity. Anyone who claims otherwise is self centered and cares only about themselves, certainly not the rules or anyone else. It has nothing to do with the "shorts police", but everything to do with lack of respect of others. Apparently, for some people showing respect gets in the way of their "It's all about me" obsession.
