Picnic anyone?

Probably not. It violates local health and agriculture laws in nearly every country. In some places there are hefty fines imposed. You'll probably see a warning about not taking food ashore in the daily program and against the gangway. If you must take food for medical reasons, bring sealed, commercially prepared, pre packaged snacks from home

Nope, no "prepared foods" are allowed to be taken off the ship.

Something pre-packaged (snack)...think "granola bar" might be ok but

a picnic basket of foods? Nope...nothing like that happens.

Many of the beaches (depending on where you are going) have snack

bars, restaurants, etc....on property.

I'd go further than "probably" not and say "definitely" not.

Agriculture regulations are very strong. If the ship provided a picnic lunch and sent it ashore with a passenger there could be really serious ramifications - huge fines and who knows what else. Foreign pests cause unbelievable damage to an ecosystem.

If you want a snack, either bring your own pre-packaged snacks (like granola bars) or purchase something on shore.

I would be willing to bet that you could find a local restaurant to provide you with a picnic once you are off the ship. Maybe check on the ports of call page and post the question there? Keep us posted, and I think it sounds like a great idea!

Thanks for the great idea! I will look into it.

Thanks everyone for the quick response. I've been cruising for years and watching people stuff so many breakfast buffet items into their bags for "later" (never done it myself). Makes perfect sense, though, that it could be harmful.

Yogurt and boxed ceral like fruit lood or something is fine....its just anything not sealed causes problems.

In Bermuda in August there was a huge table mounded with fruit and other items that they were finding when the local authorities scanned us COMING OFF OF THE SHIP!!!! I had never been scanned coming off of the ship by the local authorities.
