JosieCat-MN Posted January 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2014 My Royal Caribbean cruise on Majesty of the Seas that I'm taking in August has an excursion for the Hemingway Home and a tour of Sloppy Joe's - cost is $39. From the sound of the excursion, it's a walking tour, so transportation isn't an issue. The cost of the Hemingway tour is $13. Any reason to pay the excursion price vs. just taking the tour myself. Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. Plus I'm only there from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and I want to fit in the Butterfly Nature Center too. The picture is of my Josie girl, who went to the bridge a few years ago. She had the most beautiful blue eyes. I still miss her :(

A tour of Sloppy Joe's? No, no, no, no. Do not pay for that. I agree with the others. Do it all on your own. You'll enjoy this much better doing it at your own leisure. I recommend taking the walk to the furthest destination first. Go see the butterflies, then Hemingway House...also consider going in the lighthouse across the street from the Hemingway House. Then, make your way to Sloppy Joe's so you can relax and grab a couple drinks.

bhopal21 Posted January 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Thanks so much! Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app I like this one a little better. http://www.keywestattractions.org/key-west-map.html As you can see Duval St is the main tourist area and runs about a mile and a quarter from where the ships dock to the Southernmost House which is near the Southernmost Point and also the Butterfly Conservatory. RCT Posted January 26, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We will be in KW on 2/11 on the Magic. I believe we are the only ship in port that day. Any problem just showing up at the Hemingway house or should we buy tickets online? Any other attractions that we should consider booking ahead of time? bhopal21 Posted January 26, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 26, 2014 No problem at all just showing up but you can save $.50 by buying your tickets online. Mike:)
thinfool Posted January 26, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 26, 2014 Dunno if this is any help....we were in KW last winter....$13.00 for Hemingway house INCLUDED admission to Mel Fletchers Shipwreck Museum that is closer to downtown. We bought this combo at the Hemingway House on Duval. Prices go up....it may not be a combo this year.
bhopal21 Posted January 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 26, 2014 The Hemingway Home is located on Whitehead St and that was a special promotion. Now tickets to both attractions are $22.25 online. Mike:)
lynncarol Posted January 31, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 31, 2014 Just was there with our grandkids three weeks ago. Got there right after it opened with nobody in line. The house tour started within 10 minutes. Total charge: $45.00 for two seniors, one teenager and one child. (Also, we tipped the guide).
bhopal21 Posted January 31, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 31, 2014 I find that to be the optimum time. Hope you guys enjoyed it. Mike:)
lynncarol Posted February 2, 2014 #20 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Actually, we did enjoy it. The house tour was fascinating (even for grandkids) and they loved petting all the friendly kitties. Our guide said petting the cats is permitted, but not picking them up.
Joyfredsblondecruiser Posted February 28, 2014 #21 Share Posted February 28, 2014 I have always been a big Hemmingway fan. I think it would be great to visit his home and some of his haunts. Thank you all for posting. Happy Sailing, Joy
peter_krynicki Posted February 28, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 28, 2014 Ten or more years ago they used to run a little adoption service for the kittens of the house cats, but stopped it. There was a donation which went to buying food and up-keep of the small enclosures out back. Pjk
