jtl513 Posted January 28, 2014 #26 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I don't know. When in Curacao, who granted the permission? The city or the country or both? I asked you first! :D:D

Topsham Posted January 30, 2014 #28 Share Posted January 30, 2014 The rules for a casino depends on the port... any port. Nothing to do with any maritime law and certainly nothing to do with US. If Bermuda Govt. makes the decision to allow any ship a casino then they will allow. Should have been done years ago... but the then government did nothing but talk and get nothing done! The good news VEENDAM is coming back to Bermuda. The bad news is that she is making ONE cruise in 2015 and ONE cruise in 2016. Never know, things might come better. I sure hope so. Himself Posted January 30, 2014 #30 Share Posted January 30, 2014 From World Ocean & Cruise News 01/20/14: The Bermuda Government is now allowing docked cruise ships to operate onboard casinos from 9:00pm until 5:00am. Overall, Bermuda's cruise business has steadily declined in recent years and this is seen as a bolster to more cruise ship visits Thank you for the news. Many moons ago... 1998 was a ten day fall cruise to New England AND two days in Bermuda.... started from New York. Best of all... 1. Started in New York 2. New England ports 3. Next cruise, Boston for Canada/New England seven days. That would make a wonderful Collector's cruise. :)

Topsham said there will be one in 2015. By one of these I meant one of the May, June or July cruises in 2015. I was very happy to see these added to the list of possibilities. Spender Nui Posted January 31, 2014 #43 Share Posted January 31, 2014 We have been on HAL (Dutch Registry ship) when in Curacao with a late sailaway. It is a Dutch island and have given the ship permission to open the casino and shops in the evening while we were still docked. That leads me to think it is at the option of the port to grant permission or not? Not related to casino but I remember years ago sailing on the beautiful (old) Rotterdam late and having an extraordinary fireworks display as we sailed. One of our favorite cruise memories. One of our favorite cruise memories. Everything on the old ROTTERDAM was better! :-) Never cared about the cabins... Never cared about balconies.... Never worred 'perks'.... ladychar Posted February 1, 2014 #45 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Do that many people really spend time in the ship's casino when it is in a port in a great location like Bermuda? It just seems like that would be a pass time for a sea day.

One of our favorite cruise memories. Oh my, yes. I so remember how beautiful the sailway. A gorgeous Caribbean night, locals lining the harbor and us at aft pool watching the fireworks. It doesn't get much better and then HAL no longer did that. Sigh..... Last we saw that was probably 4 or so years ago. Do that many people really spend time in the ship's casino when it is in a port in a great location like Bermuda? It just seems like that would be a pass time for a sea day. We wouldn't but everyone enjoys their cruise their way. Maybe someone was on the ship for weeks and had visited ashore in Bermuda many nights? Whatever makes them happy. :)
