What is the typical amount to tip an tour guide for excursions 3-5 hours long?

If he/she was very good - 10 each. No so good - 5.00 each.

We usually give the tour guide and the driver each $5 from each of us -- total $20.

For that length of trip, we would tip anywhere from $5 to $10 per person, depending on the guide.

There have been times that I've actually tipped the driver more than the guide. Reason being the driver was for more knowledgeable and very helpful.

It depends in how good they are. For the driver we want safety as #1 and a clean vehicle as #2. For the guide we look for a great personality and lot's of knowledge. We would typically give the driver $5 each and the guide between $5-20 each. It also depends in the country and local tipping customs.

Of the cost of the tour is my standard. I have gone higher for a couple of really super trips.
