Linerguy Posted February 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2014 I swear, some people. On John Heald's blog today: ***** asks: I cruised on the Carnival Sensation, my second cruise, and first time I have been told I have to wear shoes in the buffet. It’s supposed to be a beach area, isn’t it, on Lido so how come I was told to do this two times on Carnival Sensation and never on Carnival Fascination and why do I have to wear shoes because nobody told me why? Just to put them on in front of my wife and kids. *** is this – customer is always right, not at Carnival John says: Hello *****, We do have rules about this with all guests asked to wear shoes in the Lido restaurant for health and safety reasons as we are really trying to reduce accidents on board and wet floors and bare feet simply don’t go together very well. It is also not nice to see a minging (urbandictionary.com) pair of feet while you are waiting for your Mongolian Wok or if another guest dropped a baked potato or a huge fully loaded burger on your little toe, that would be very painful indeed. Seriously, though we do have these rules and we are going to be working hard to make sure the staff all know to enforce them. Flip flops, tennis shoes, sandals, steel capped work boots, Uggs, flippers, and oversized clown shoes are all OK but bare feet are not. I do hope that you will put this one little thing aside and that you had a great cruise which means we will see you again. Best wishes to you and the family. thistoo Posted February 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2014 I wish they'd enforced the 'no bathing suits' and 'no going shirtless' rule in the buffet on the Ecstasy in December.
Mysticks1 Posted February 5, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2014 I wish they'd enforced the 'no bathing suits' and 'no going shirtless' rule in the buffet on the Ecstasy in December. I agree, those would be the more important ones to enforce. I personally wouldn't want to go barefoot in the buffet, no telling what you might step on or in. Linerguy Posted February 5, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted February 5, 2014 I can just imagine if something happened and this guy was injured – he'd sue Carnival faster than Linda Blair spews pea soup.
Heartfruit Posted February 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 5, 2014 I really wonder about people some times. I mean it really takes a pretty minimal effort to throw on a pair of flip flops and a swim suit cover up before walking into an eating area. beachbum53 Posted February 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2014 As an alternative, shoes aren't required at the pizza bar. Just hope the person in front of you doesn't step backwards.:D
Rare LMaxwell Posted February 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 5, 2014 A basic thing like wearing footwear in a dining area gets the "customer is always right" line? Some people just aren't very bright...

That's the first time I've heard of anyone enforcing the dress code rules at the buffet, and I've certainly never seen it enforced in all my cruises. I can't believe someone was crude enough to ask this question of JH. Wow. JH had a really good reply.
h_blond2 Posted February 5, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 5, 2014 This guy is ridiculous! How hard is it to throw on a pair of flip-flops? I personally would not want to go barefoot in any public space. On our last cruise, we did see a teenage boy get kicked out of the buffet line for not having a shirt on. It was nice to the rules being enforced!
dwayneb236 Posted February 5, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2014 I had forgotten to put on shoes one morning on the ecstasy. Dont know where my head was. Got stopped at the lido entrance and told I needed to wear shoes. Well heres what i did. Went to my cabin and put on shoes. Easy as that. Tbay-eh Posted February 5, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) With a ship of 3000 plus have you ever looked at some of the feet of people walking barefoot - you would gag. I wouldn't want my feet walking where they do - I take my shoes (flip flops etc) off when I get a lounger and put them on when I get up to go somewhere. What about going into the washrooms - I would not want to be barefoot in there for the love of money. Edited February 5, 2014 by Tbay-eh
Rare richstowe Posted February 5, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 5, 2014 Two Points - Trolls are always posting on his blog just to get a rise out of him. This person may exist but I wouldn't count on it. - I don't really care if people are barefoot in the buffet. What makes me gag are the guys wearing undershirts. I don't want to see anyone else's hairy pitts near the food.

And hairy arm pits near the food? Not likely, unless the guy has really short arms. And besides, arm pit hair is really no different than hair anywhere else on the body. It's all in how you perceive it.
Smiling Cruiser Posted February 5, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 5, 2014 True story-I was walking through a casino on another cruise line and stepped in poop! Not a joke. It was daytime and I was just passing through! I had on flip flops and my foot slid out in front of me. I caught my balance looked down and GROSS . Not sure why it was there-A diaper that leaked???? I had a hard time getting the casino dealer to understand what I was telling her and had to pull bar chairs in a circle to prevent others from stepping in it, all while standing on one foot. Finally got custodial help and I took off the flip flop and threw it away. Never got anything on my foot but next stop was the shower and then a trip to the gift shop to buy new flip flops. (I was so happy that the original ones had the thick soles.) This could just as easily have happened in the buffet. I never go anywhere in the public area without something on my feet and anytime i'm tempted I just remember that incident.

beachbum53 Posted February 5, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 5, 2014 Now Carnival is going to perform short arm inspections in the lido? No, there will probably be a sign that says "Your arms must be at least this long (with a drawing of an arm and a measurement) or you will not be allowed to serve yourself.":D

Almost Packed Posted February 6, 2014 #21 Share Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) I'm curious, do you think that he meant the actual buffet line, or the lido burger grill/drink station etc. I have walked up and got a drink from the drink station barefoot while I was at the pool. I've never ordered a burger or any food barefoot...but i wonder if that's what he's talking about? I could see people thinking hey, i'm outdoors, it's a grill, by the pool. Edited February 6, 2014 by Almost Packed
cruise_girl2002 Posted February 6, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 6, 2014 I saw this. What a whack job!! would you go into a restaurant on land without shoes? NO!!! *** was he thinking about writing this as a complaint?

DHnDWplus2 Posted February 6, 2014 #24 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Growing up, my mother always made us cover our feet in t he kitchen/dining area. Those are places where slips, trips, and falls happen (not to mention stepping on something painful) . The guy's an idiot...
