Jasjas Posted February 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2014 We are two ladies in our mid-sixties and we have to choose between a 4 day cruise to Bahamas featuring Grand Bahama, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau on Norwegian Sky or 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise featuring St Thomas, Tortola and Nassau on Norwegian Getaway as an add-on to our Alaska cruise of 7 days on Norwegian Sun during September... PLEASE HELP ???
johnql Posted February 14, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Not a difficult choice at all for me. I would opt for the 7-day Eastern Carib over the 4-day Bahamas every time. Longer cruise plus better itinerary (IMHO). Also, Breakaway is bigger with more frills than the Sky (not a positive to everyone).

Rare ttnc4me Posted February 14, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Caribbean hands down. No politically correct way to describe the Bahamas without offending someone I'm sure. Getaway > Sky too.
SissasMomE Posted February 14, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Caribbean. I am not a big fan of the Bahamas.
FuninWB Posted February 14, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2014 We have done both itineraries. We agree with all the other posters; the eastern Caribbean is FAR superior.
Red-Sol Posted February 14, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2014 The 7 day eastern wins in a landslide! :)
Alliezona09 Posted February 14, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Eastern~! And it has nothing to do with the length~
jdvmd Posted February 14, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Definitely the longer cruise.
geegee1 Posted February 14, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 14, 2014 We've done both as well. The Virgin Islands are hands down much better than the Bahamas. St Thomas and Tortolla might be my favorite stops

ColinIllinois Posted February 14, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 14, 2014 I'll make it unanimous on the votes. I think that first itinerary is horrendous.
welove2cruise* Posted February 14, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 14, 2014 No choice at all...Caribbean vs Bahamas = Caribbean wins hands down. 7day vs 4 day = unpacking and packing still take the same time but more time to enjoy in between. :) Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
cruis247g Posted February 14, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Caribbean...definitely. :). Have fun!!
david_sobe Posted February 15, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Several factors here NCL's oldest ship vs NCL's newest ship 4 days vs 7 days I would vote Getaway every time!
Rare mking8288 Posted February 15, 2014 #19 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Win by a landslide, thus far, [Like] (thumbs up) Caribbean islands vs. Bahamas and added bonus of NCL's newest Getaway, a virtual floating resort at sea. Besides, if sea conditions are rough, ship won't even make it to Great Stirup Cay for tendering. Nassau isn't exactly our favorite port either, just exited the terminal building, walked up the block & picked up some gift items & turned around to head back to the ship. Jasjas Posted February 15, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted February 15, 2014 THANK YOU ! THANK YOU EVERYBODY....!! I NEVER thought that the choice could be so easy... I have never been even CLOSE to the USA, let alone the tropical islands -so this is really unknown territory for me... Your response and all the info you give me is very much appreciated. THANX AGAIN. Jasjas.
Tatka Posted February 15, 2014 #21 Share Posted February 15, 2014 You will like Caribbeans much more than Bahamas! Only concern is... if you flying over the pond, maybe it makes sense to look for a cruise with more ports? There are 7 nights/4 ports itineraries from Florida or even 7 nights/5 ports from Puerto Rico. Not necessarily with NCL, but still.
Jasjas Posted February 15, 2014 Author #22 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Thanks Tatka, we have to go Norwegian as we already have the deposit as a cruise reward and we have a limited budget due to the VERY expensive airfare flying from South Africa and a horrendously weak currency compared to US$... But we intend to make the most of it. I really do appreciate your input !
meatball_nyc Posted February 15, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 15, 2014 You will love the Getaway. We are sailing on her twin sister the Breakaway out of NYC this summer and can't wait.
