Jamin Posted June 5, 2011 #1851 Share Posted June 5, 2011 Hi everyone:D - great to see the posts are still flowing and Virgo is still serving us cruisers admirably. I hope all you upcoming Virgo Cruisers give us some great feedback on your experiences - it is always great to hear that she is going strong. Really looking forward to seeing the new itineraries for the next year of cruising on Virgo - so if anyone has any indication of StarCruises plans - it would be great to hear. Having enjoyed cruising on her numerous times taking 5N itineraries from both Singapore and Hong Kong I would love to sail on Virgo out of Hong Kong again or maybe a relocation if she moves. I am also really looking forward to eating at the best italian restaurant at sea IMHO TIA Jamin

Jamin Posted June 5, 2011 #1853 Share Posted June 5, 2011 Hi boeckli Lets hope that Star give us avid Virgo cruisers some varied itineraries at some stage. Do you know when they release the 12/13 destinations ( it seems to be around Sept if I recall ) Hong Kong would be my ideal choice as Victoria Harbour was truly amazing:) from the ship. Suppose it is simply a matter of keeping my fingers crossed. Regards Jamin
kuldalai Posted June 5, 2011 #1854 Share Posted June 5, 2011 Don't hold your breath !!!! Star Cruises is primarily a floating Casino business operating in International waters aimed primarily at the Asian gamblers . So the cruises offered for the last 3 - 4 years have been the ever so predictable 3 - 4 day Straits of Malacca cruises, with anything longer involving two calls at either Port Klang or Singapore. So boring and repetitive. Star Cruises is an excellent product, but the current management is simply no longer interested in the REAL cruise business offering longer duration cruises in Asia to an ever increasing International cruise market . If Star were "fair dinkum' they would use SS LIBRA and use her on longer duration 10 - 14 day itineraries in Asia year round operating out of Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore . If Star did so they would cream Costa who offer a reasonable product but with older vessels totally unsuited to Asian waters. Oh for the days when SS GEMINI for Star operated longer duration itineraries in Asia out of both Singapore and Hong Kong . The 14 day round trip out of either port (Singapore or Hong Kong) could also be taken as a one way 7 day trip . Some day Star management might wake up that they can have both their floating casino cruise ships, plus make money with genuine real longer duration cruises . The sister line NCL has plenty of available ships, several actually owned by Star and on lease to NCL ! One is currently cruising around the Mediteranean looking for a buyer, whereas a pro-active Star could bring her to Asia and use her there on real cruises . Jamin Posted June 5, 2011 #1855 Share Posted June 5, 2011 I think you are probably right kuldalai - Star has more focus on gambling than true cruising.:( The thing that they really do well though, which is probably based around gambling, is the Balcony and Admiral Class variants. We have used Balcony class once then went to Admiral class for our next 3 and would never go back. The level of service and privileges is second to none for value.:) Only Virgo has this capacity - so I am going to simply have to cross my fingers and toes with a hope that Star shows some sort of option for some extended or varied cruise options on their flagship vessel Unfortunately I seem to go through this prior to each season being released.:p Here is hoping Jamin
evg87 Posted June 27, 2011 #1856 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Hello! Tell me about cashless system on board the Superstar Virgo. I will pay for everything (except inclusive meals) by my ID-card. And at the finish of the cruise, somebody will check my ID-card, calculate my debt... and I will pay cash? Is it correct? :) If yes, than how can I check the "current balanсe" (debt) of my ID-card? Thank you :))
seasick_in_a_bathtub Posted June 27, 2011 #1857 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Evg87, That's correct. You will need to settle your account prior to disembarking, either with cash or a credit card. You can go to Customer Service Desk anytime during the cruise and get a printout of your up to date spending. Cheers Justine
skwong76 Posted June 28, 2011 #1858 Share Posted June 28, 2011 Any idea if Virgo always punctual or sometimes may delay due to weather? And also if it's stated arrival at 1pm, how long it take to clear (bills, etc) everything ? Reason is, I am not sure if i have enough time to take the bus from Harbour Front, SG at 2pm... Jamin Posted July 9, 2011 #1869 Share Posted July 9, 2011 Hi cruisers From my recollection there is internet access in the library - but it was quite slow:( Fairly sure it was at a charge also We only used it a couple of times over our numerous voyages on SSV which was a couple of years ago now. Enjoy your cruise:D Jamin
Bugis Posted July 14, 2011 #1870 Share Posted July 14, 2011 I have read that Pices and Aquarius have had major upgrades while in dry dock and I was wondering if anyone knows if Star are planning on a refurbishment of Virgo in the near future?? kuldalai Posted July 16, 2011 #1871 Share Posted July 16, 2011 Under a new arrangement between Star Cruises and SATS (Singapore Air Terminal Services) Operators of Singapore's Changi Airport ; passengers travelling on SS VIRGO or SS LIBRA departing Singapore will be able to do their full check-in for the cruise on arrival at Singapore's (Changi) Airport . Bags will be booked through (and left in the passengers Stateroom on board) and Boarding Passes for the ship issued at the Airport . For a charge of around $ 30 pax will also be transferred from the Airport to the Singapore Cruise Terminal . The service will operate on days that Star Cruises boats are scheduled to depart from Singapore .

kuldalai Posted July 25, 2011 #1873 Share Posted July 25, 2011 The Internet access on most ships including SS VIRGO is via Satellite and painfully slow and as expensive as all hell - like $ 1 US a minute !!!! an absolute rip-off .
seasick_in_a_bathtub Posted July 29, 2011 #1874 Share Posted July 29, 2011 Just got back from our 4th cruise on the Virgo. Loved it! :D It seemed a lot less crowded than our previous cruises, even though there were over 2200 passengers on board. Food was good, entertainment not as great as we have seen before but that's not a big deal for us. I just wish they would change the itineraries and add longer cruises....some 10 or 11 days would be ideal. Cheers\ Justine
Jamin Posted August 4, 2011 #1875 Share Posted August 4, 2011 Great to hear your cruise was again fantastic:) I agree totally on the extended itineraries which would at least offer some variation and a chance to really settle in to life on Virgo. Star need some foresight for this ship as the same itineraries are becoming a bit monotonous.:o They have slowly but surely upped their fares but aren't providing anything more. We are very keen to sail on her again - but are waiting desperately for Star to release next years itinerary I live in hope:D Jamin
