CowPrincess Posted February 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I see that you partner is having surgery today for the detached retina. Nearly missed that because I had not really been paying attention to the MSC Divina thread. Best wishes to him for an uneventful and speedy recovery! When things settle down, I am SO hoping you will do a not-so-live report on the charter. I know many of us enjoyed the last one you did!

absolutboy20 Posted February 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I think that was bradpole who did the not so live day-by-day breakdown with pictures last year of the charter. I believe he did a back to to back and is currently on a Celebrity cruise so we won't hear from him for a little bit. Boytjie wishing your partner a speedy recovery. Is he physically ok otherwise? I thought detached retinas happen from impact trauma like car accidents so hoping that there wasn't any other injuries.

K&RCurt Posted February 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 25, 2014 You and your partner will be in my thoughts and prayers. I don't know how you guys usually deal with stressful situations like this, but I can say from experience that a positive outlook and focusing on a good outcome really does help. My wife recently had surgery and she was kind of down and negative going in, but myself and a few of her friends got her attitude turned around an I think it was part of the good outcome (not to take away anything from the Doctors and medical team.) Boytjie Posted February 26, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 26, 2014 Wow, thank you everyone for your messages, I just saw this thread. Getting verklempt! We are home now after spending the day at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and he is resting, so far it looks like the procedure went well. We go back tomorrow morning for the patch to be removed and have a checkup. It started on the cruise when he complained about some vision issue and he thought it might just be a scratch. There was no trauma; he says he was lying down and when he got up his vision was off. Back in Ft. Lauderdale it seemed to have gotten worse and I reached out to local friends for recommendations for ophthalmologists and one referral was actually open on Sunday. He diagnosed it and sent us to a retina specialist on Monday. All this time we were in contact with out ophthalmologist back home; he consulted with the specialist and they decided it was safe to travel home and get the procedure done in New York. If it was done in Florida he would not have been able to fly home for weeks. Before seeing the retina specialist in Ft. Lauderdale we decided to start packing just in case we had to change flight plans, so after seeing him we got on the phone with jetBlue to change flights and were on a flight last night. Thanks again for all your concern.
Boytjie Posted February 26, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 26, 2014 Brad did indeed do a long review of last years cruise. For myself there is just too much happening on a RSVP cruise to do a live/almost live report. :) Once things settle down here I will write a review. Love the beach Posted February 26, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 26, 2014 Glad to hear all is well. DH had that happen to him a few years ago....woke up one morning and the bottom half of his eye had no vision. Emergency surgery at NY Eye & Ear Infirmary (Dr. Shabto did the surgery...excellent doctor) and all was well after that.
