Sofa beds

We will be cruising on the Massdam in a Vista suite for seven days. My adult daughter will be traveling with us. She will be using the sofa bed. How are they in terms of comfort and size? Thanks for responding

Our daughter has slept on them many times but the older she gets (18 now) the less she likes them. They are ok size wise but the mattress is about what you would expect a sofa mattress to be, some what thin.

Pardon my EXTREME disdain if it shows through when I say this, but I would sooner have slept on the floor than the sofa bed last September.

The bed absolutely SUCKS. There are two bars, one that was in my mid-back and one at my knees. I am 6 foot tall and my feet almost fit over the end. I had a massage on the first sea day which loosened me up, but by the time the cruise was over, my back was so stiff and sore, I couldn't sit still in the Vista show lounge; I was in agony.

If you have the opportunity to ask for an extra bit of padding for the bed, or use the drop-down bed from the ceiling (if available), USE IT.

As luck would have it, I'm sharing a cabin with my parents on the Zuiderdam again in April and we are in the EXACT same cabin. We will be using the pull-down bed, and not the sofa bed. It is WORTHLESS. I will be a huge cheerleader for HAL, but the sofa beds desperately need to change!

Are all the sofa beds about the size of a twin? We had one once on the Noordam that was more of a double, but I think that was just the Noordam.

The sofa bed I slept on was barely a single. No room to sprawl out at all. That was in a J category cabin.

I have slept on the sofa bed on the Rotterdam . Had no complaints, and I have slept on many sofa beds, will do so again in August , when we cruise to Alaska on the Statendam,

Agreed. I spent 23 nights on a sofa bed on the Rotterdam and did just fine. And oddly enough, I'll be doing it on the Statendam next, in April/May.

We were in a Neptune suite, so the bed is the same size as the couch...in this case likely a dbl/queen. I could look out the balcony door at the sites ( and even in the dead of nite there can be something to see...sailed past oil rigs in the North Sea, and the Oresund bridge between Denmark and Sweden startled me ).

Perhaps the difference in opinion is more to do with the type of sofa bed. There are two used by HAL.

One where the sofa seat is flipped over to become the bed and the other where it pulls out of the sofa (like a sofabed you would have in your home). We have had the type where the seat flipps over twice with no complaints. It is a full single bed sized mattress. I suspect the one that pulls out of the sofa may be the one with the bars which would be more uncomfortable to some.

Just my guess.

It is also quite uncomfortable when made up and used as a couch.

Can't agree to this. Upon our return from our first day in St. Pete's , I showered, and then collapsed on this couch...woke refreshed , and received our room service steak dinner as per our previous day order. This couch/bed served me well for 12 days in the Baltic,
