SailBadtheSinner Posted March 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2014 The 2014 cruise ship season has not yet started in Bermuda. The first cruise ship to visit Bermuda in 2014 is the Wind Star which will be docking in St George on 4/5,6, but I don't know if it has a casino; but the Explorer of the Seas does and it will be at the Dockyard from 4/7,8. I have been watching the enewspaper for an announcement, but so far there has not been one. SBtS

krazy_dave Posted April 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 1, 2014 The key phrase in that article is "pay a casino licensing fee". Most of the cruise lines won't want to cough up the bucks unless there's a major call from passengers to open the casinos

njhorseman Posted April 3, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) The key phrase in that article is "pay a casino licensing fee". Most of the cruise lines won't want to cough up the bucks unless there's a major call from passengers to open the casinos There's been a major call for decades from passengers and the cruise lines to open the casinos, and the cruise lines were the force behind getting the law changed. Kevin Sheehan, NCL's CEO, threatened to pull the Breakaway, the largest ship that goes there out of Bermuda if they didn't change the law and permit the casinos to open. Holland America pulled the Veendam out of Bermuda largely because of the casino issue. Now that the law has changed the Veendam will be returning to Bermuda for at least several sailings a year starting in 2015.
