pkflamingo Posted March 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I was thinking of getting some ID lanyards for my kids to hold their room key cards. 1st....is that dorky? And 2nd...do the RCI cards have a hole punched in them?
PattyG12 Posted March 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2014 You can have them hole punched. I believe the kids in Adventure Ocean are given lanyards when they sign up
Weber Prof Posted March 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2014 RC also usually has a craft activity where you can make lanyards, but it fills up quickly. Official RCCL lanyards can be pricey. I find I like lanyards with a water proof pouch to keep my cell phone and items when I go on shore because I am often in the water.

cage keeper Posted March 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Not at all. It's called responsible parenting. LOL. The kids will love them.
Dick and Jane Posted March 18, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 18, 2014 If your kids think their dorky or uncool, they won't wear them. Better to get them from the youth program so they can be like all their other new cool friends. Langley Cruisers Posted March 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2014 On our recent B2B we saw more people wearing lanyards than ever before. All ages had them, from kids to seniors. Some were from the shop onboard and others were brought from home. Personally, I do not wear one but it's very obvious to me that "the lanyard" is not going anywhere! LOL . heziggy Posted March 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2014 we've used them on our cruise and 2 trips to Disney world. if you don't want your kids to feel 'dorky' you can let them choose their own.
Cruzin-K Posted March 18, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I keep my card on a lanyard. I have the type with a plastic sleeve to put the card in so it's easily pulled out to pay for drinks, etc. I sure don't want to carry a purse around the ship just for one card, and it would fall out of my pockets for sure so there's really nowhere else to carry it  I still fail to see why people think lanyards are dorky. I think it's more dorky to have to visit guest services to replace a lost card. :D
tserface Posted March 18, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Dorky! Probably could be considered a form of child abuse :) Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

We brought my kids universal studios lanyards (teens). My mom and I did buy sparkly ones in the gift shop. With the drink package, we found it much easier. jeannejj Posted March 18, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) I love my lanyard, and am never without it. I am at the very lucky time of my life....I am old enough not to give a rat's tail what other people think of me. It's a convenience, and if it's dorky, so be it....:D Edited March 18, 2014 by jeannejj
Cruisin' Along Posted March 18, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I'm a dork then! I wear a lanyard with a pouch to hold my card. Beats having it fall out of a pocket.
goodycruising Posted March 18, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I would drop mine for sure if it was in my pocket, and by having it hanging around your neck, that leaves your hands free for holding rails, and also food and drinks. I do put it in a small clutch on nights where we are dressing up a bit, but be carful not to have one with a magnet clasp! They should also be kept away from camera and phones, so around the neck gets my vote.
JuliaMS Posted March 18, 2014 #19 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I have always either got one from the kids club or bought them the one from the ship so it's a souvenir. I had to take the card to guest services to get the hole punched. This will be their 5h cruise starting in 2nd and 4th grades and now both in HS. My older one may not do the lanyard this time but the 15 year old still will. All the kids have them.
jhnsnfamily Posted March 18, 2014 #20 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I use the kind with the retractable cord that clips to your wasteband. Here's a link to show an example ... http://www.dhgate.com/product/retractable-id-card-badge-holder-cable-reel/86002955.html This way, it's accessible but not hanging around your neck. I always go to guest services and get my room key double punched to create a wide enough hole to thread the loop through. :)
RSLeesburg Posted March 18, 2014 #21 Share Posted March 18, 2014 You can have them hole punched. I believe the kids in Adventure Ocean are given lanyards when they sign up Our son was given one by AO when we registered. They punched hole and put his sea pass on the lanyard for him. He did not want to wear it until he saw the other kids wearing them - and then we had hard time getting him to take it off. He was 4, so it was cute - not dorky at all...lol Sent from my iPad using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app

PattyG12 Posted March 18, 2014 #23 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I also have one with the plastic pouch. In there I have my sea pass and some $ just in case I want to swing by the casino. If some people think it's dorky, that's their problem. I always know where my sea pass card is.
alfaeric Posted March 18, 2014 #24 Share Posted March 18, 2014 dorky = worring about what other people think. We've been using lanyards for a long time, and always get asked where we got them. IMHO, I'd use them for the kids- not because they would wear them, but putting a big string around the sea pass card makes it a whole lot more difficult to drop or misplace, since it's easier to see. Even in a pocket, the lanyard is useful.
Elkpad Posted March 18, 2014 #25 Share Posted March 18, 2014 I started using them about cruise number 3 (as one kid lost his seapass anout 6 times) and now can't live without them. Both the kids and adults use them. It's fairly easy to tuck on under your shirt if they are concerned. And just like a previous poster, I often get asked where I got them.
