OceanPrince Posted March 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Most of my friends (mostly in their late 30's) have never been on a cruise. When I tell them that I'm going on a 7 day cruise, I repeatedly get the response "I can't imagine being stuck on a boat for 7 days." To us here on Cruise Critic, we laugh at how naive they are. How can they know they wont like it till they try it? Yet, some people here on cruise critic were bashing the Royal princess before ever trying it out. Some even cancelled their bookings simply based reading reviews. Yes, there are some design flaws like lack of central staircase Onboard Comedian Phil Tag: "I had a relaxing day at sea today, I almost finished a 400 page novel. I got to page 390, but then the elevator finally came" However, the Royal is an absolutely gorgeous ship. The positives far outweigh the negatives. It's up to you whether you want to focus on what's not there or all that is there. To me, the good far outweighs the bad. Some of the ship highlights are.. - pure beauty and elegance of the public areas - on demand entertainment system, it's like netflix with some live tv - retreat pool, so much better than the other ships - more food options and larger buffet (and in my opinion, better food) - Seawalk and seaview bar Gorgeous Atrium Beatles Tribute Band playing in Atrium Seaview Bar Water fountain show Seawalk Retreat Pool Click on my signiture below for the complete album of Royal Princess pictures Edited March 31, 2014 by OceanPrince

Pam in CA Posted March 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks! That's our opinion as well...that the positives outweigh the negatives. The HC has spoiled us completely.
Rare perfect match Posted March 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Thank you for sharing your pictures of the Royal. We are trying to decide what our next cruise should be and the Royal is most definitely on my list. I checked out the pictures in your signature and I plan to get DH to look at them as well because I know he will like what he sees. I am hoping that once he sees how beautiful the ship is, he will be convinced that the Royal is the way to go for us! :D
skf Posted March 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Outstanding review, great attitude, and fabulous pictures from OceanPrince. We are sailing on Royal April 27. It's our combo Happy Birthday & even happier retirement sailaway extravaganza. The one thing difficult to find in Cruise Critic is review &/or descriptions of Rpyal's casino. Anyone have anything on that? Steve & Pete

Anyone have anything on that? Steve & Pete The casino is what us UK people would call 'cosy'. It is actually quite big (but not quite as big as on Grand class) but has been crammed full of machines. What doesnt help is the large high back stools they use, this narrows the walkways between rows of machines/tables and sometimes makes it impossible to move without people having to stand up, move the stool out of the way to let you passed. Lots of nice new slots, and some old favourites as well. Not so many tables, but all the standard ones are there.

skf Posted March 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Lots of nice new slots, and some old favourites as well. Thank you, Mr. Swiss, that's what I wanted to hear. Some of the ships seem to get their slots at the antique shops around Las Vegas. impossible to move without people having to stand up, move the stool out of the way to let you passed I'm used to that...seems wherever I stand (even behind a pole;or, believe it or not, in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, on top of a newspaper dispenser bolted to a lamp post, I get bumped into. slc22 Posted March 31, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 31, 2014 OceanPrince, really liked the style of your review. Sense of humor and great photos. So glad you enjoyed the Royal Princess. I found the same things to like about the ship that you did. Lovely ship! Wonder if the Beatle Tribute band in your photo is the Beatlemaniacs that have performed on the ship in the past? Hope you submit a formal review to CruiseCritic, too!
coloradocruisers101 Posted March 31, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 31, 2014 OceanPrince, thanks for the photos and review. I was on the ship with you sailing 3/16/2014. I also think the positives out weigh the negatives. I am happy that I got to sail on the Royal. Do I have other favorite ships, of course. But all the things you mentioned are true. She is beautiful and one must experience at least one time. Happy Crusing!

Grego Posted March 31, 2014 #15 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks for posting some of your images of the Royal and also for not making us look at tens of shots of the same subject as been posted earlier. Looking forward to seeing her this coming weekend and shooting some of my own images of stuff that most people haven't seen yet.
Rare hllwdcruiser Posted March 31, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Thank you for posting on all the positives. The photos are great - the Seaview Bar and the new HC are enough to make me want to sail on her right now!

umbluemusic Posted March 31, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 31, 2014 I can't wait to show these to my boyfriend - he and I will be traveling next year on the Royal and we are SO EXCITED but these pictures are different than most of the shots I've found. I'm trying to resist making a list of things I want to do right now; we are still pretty far away...but the time is flying by!
Lsmith52 Posted March 31, 2014 #19 Share Posted March 31, 2014 7 days? pfffft that's nothing! We are getting ready to book the 28 day cruise to Tahiti. It's always people who have never cruised that say that.
