Royal Princess Photos and my 2 cents

Most of my friends (mostly in their late 30's) have never been on a cruise. When I tell them that I'm going on a 7 day cruise, I repeatedly get the response "I can't imagine being stuck on a boat for 7 days." To us here on Cruise Critic, we laugh at how naive they are. How can they know they wont like it till they try it? Yet, some people here on cruise critic were bashing the Royal princess before ever trying it out. Some even cancelled their bookings simply based reading reviews. Yes, there are some design flaws like lack of central staircase

Onboard Comedian Phil Tag: "I had a relaxing day at sea today, I almost finished a 400 page novel. I got to page 390, but then the elevator finally came"

However, the Royal is an absolutely gorgeous ship. The positives far outweigh the negatives. It's up to you whether you want to focus on what's not there or all that is there. To me, the good far outweighs the bad.

Some of the ship highlights are..

- pure beauty and elegance of the public areas

- on demand entertainment system, it's like netflix with some live tv

- retreat pool, so much better than the other ships

- more food options and larger buffet (and in my opinion, better food)

- Seawalk and seaview bar

Now that was funny! ;)

Loved your gorgeous pictures! Brought back some wonderful memories of my two weeks aboard Royal Princess.

Thank you for sharing your pictures of the Royal. We are trying to decide what our next cruise should be and the Royal is most definitely on my list. I checked out the pictures in your signature and I plan to get DH to look at them as well because I know he will like what he sees. I am hoping that once he sees how beautiful the ship is, he will be convinced that the Royal is the way to go for us! :D

Outstanding review, great attitude, and fabulous pictures from OceanPrince.

We are sailing on Royal April 27. It's our combo Happy Birthday & even happier retirement sailaway extravaganza.

The one thing difficult to find in Cruise Critic is review &/or descriptions of Rpyal's casino. Anyone have anything on that?

The casino is what us UK people would call 'cosy'. It is actually quite big (but not quite as big as on Grand class) but has been crammed full of machines. What doesnt help is the large high back stools they use, this narrows the walkways between rows of machines/tables and sometimes makes it impossible to move without people having to stand up, move the stool out of the way to let you passed.

Lots of nice new slots, and some old favourites as well.

Not so many tables, but all the standard ones are there.

Thank you, Mr. Swiss, that's what I wanted to hear. Some of the ships seem to get their slots at the antique shops around Las Vegas.

I'm used to that...seems wherever I stand (even behind a pole;or, believe it or not, in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, on top of a newspaper dispenser bolted to a lamp post, I get bumped into.

OceanPrince, really liked the style of your review. Sense of humor and great photos. So glad you enjoyed the Royal Princess. I found the same things to like about the ship that you did. Lovely ship!

Wonder if the Beatle Tribute band in your photo is the Beatlemaniacs that have performed on the ship in the past?

Hope you submit a formal review to CruiseCritic, too!

OceanPrince, thanks for the photos and review. I was on the ship with you sailing 3/16/2014. I also think the positives out weigh the negatives. I am happy that I got to sail on the Royal. Do I have other favorite ships, of course. But all the things you mentioned are true. She is beautiful and one must experience at least one time.

Happy Crusing!

Fabulous joke! My friends (in their late 20s/early 30s) often say the same thing to me. If only they knew what they were missing! You just got me excited for my Regal trip in August :)

Thanks for posting some of your images of the Royal and also for not making us look at tens of shots of the same subject as been posted earlier. Looking forward to seeing her this coming weekend and shooting some of my own images of stuff that most people haven't seen yet.

I can't wait to show these to my boyfriend - he and I will be traveling next year on the Royal and we are SO EXCITED but these pictures are different than most of the shots I've found. I'm trying to resist making a list of things I want to do right now; we are still pretty far away...but the time is flying by!
