Kids on Celebrity?

Our grandchildren loved Celebrity when they were younger and still remains their favor as older teens. :)

How many kiddos on the ship will depend on the time of the year and the length of the cruise. ;)

There will absolutely be kids. My son was 11 when we did Alaska in July of 2012 on the Celebrity Infinity. He had an absolute ball and there were at least 100 kids on that cruise.

 

You are really lucky because Brent Nixon will be on board the Solstice. He gives lectures on all the native wildlife and your kids will love him. My son did (and so did I). He is animated and fun.

 

The kids are going to love Bistro on Five. Go there on the day of embarkation to avoid the lines at the buffet.

My children have only ever sailed X, my oldest 7 times. That being said, since I too don't wish to be on a ship with hundreds of kids, we usually cruise in late Jan or early Feb, away from school holidays. There are usually at most 30 kids on board. And we know because the kids program people tell us.

You can also call celebrity and ask how many kids will be on your cruise.

Just curious--how does anyone know the number of children on board? Do they announce it or is it posted somewhere? I try to sail when school is in session, but I have hit vacation periods by mistake a number of times.

 

We ask one of the people in the fun factory how many kids they have this cruise. Most people on board the cruise won't know this information, because it seems like most don't even know the fun factory exists. We were asked many times if the kids were bored/having fun and then had no idea what the fun factory was when we told them about it (truth be told, we couldn't tell you a thing about the Princess kids program because we didn't have kids when we sailed with them).

 

Celebrity did a great job when laying out the ship. The fun factory is in an area that you aren't going to randomly come across. While Celebrity may not be a "kids" cruise line, you wouldn't know it by the quality of the kids' program.

I was on the same cruise and I had more issues with adults in motorized carts than the kids. Most of the kids I saw were well behaved and having fun.

 

Overall, I thought the demographics of the ship were a nice balance of age groups and couples/families.

We just got off Equinox yesterday for the 11 night cruise with our 3 and 6 year old sons. 50 under the age of 18, 12-15 in the 3-9 range. It was fantastic and the kids club is spectacular.

 

 

Did you happen to use the baby sitting service on the equinox?

Several of the wait staff told us while we were aboard the Equinox just before Christmas last year. There were 17 children on the Caribbean cruise we were on. The following sailing, which included the Christmas break, was to have over 500 children.

Do you have a specific question about the babysitting?

 

The service is done via volunteers from the crew, and it's not guaranteed. The cost is $19 USD per hour and it's for two crew members---they now require two crew members for liability reasons.

We are a family with 2 beautiful girls 14 & 11. We have sailed on Disney for 8 yrs. But seeing that our oldest is a high schooler we are having to travel more during prime times instead of just pulling her from school. Since she is asthmatic we love the no smoking in the interior of the ship and the very limited exterior smoking, just like Disney. My question is .... During breaks like Easter, are there more kids? i know Celebrity is not a normal kid hang out. Any Advice please!!!

this is probably the most contentious topic in this forum....

 

people who want to bring their children, versus people who still want an adult only atmosphere....

 

although Celebrity welcomes everybody, they dont have the opportunities for kids that royal carib ships have.....especially for teens....

 

teens on Celeb pretty much just hang out.. roam around......but on royal carib there are skating rinks, rock climbing ..etc.....plenty of activities for them to meet others while engaged in a productive activity....

During Easter there will be loads of kids on Celebrity ships, they have excellent children's programs and the 11yr old should enjoy those. As a previous poster mentioned teens tend to break into groups and do things on their own. That however is not exclusive to Celebrity but more a function of their age. My kids were om Celebrity from about 6 to adults and preferred it to other lines they were on.

I'm sure that there will be more kids during Easter break. There always tends to be more kids during any holiday/school break time. Where are you sailing / how many nights? This will also affect it.

 

We went on our first Celebrity cruise in June (11 nights Italy and Croatia) on the Silhouette. My kids are 4 and 7 and have cruised on NCL and Princess prior. Pre-kids I have sailed a few times on those lines and RCL.

 

We definately noticed less kids, but to us that was nice advantage - since I felt they got a lot of personal attention from the counselors (who were great). My kids made friends and enjoyed many of the activities they had. I did see many pre teens enjoying the club. As for teenagers, we did see them using the club as well. I would suggest having your older daughter go the first few nights to meet other teens - this seemed key. Since I would notice the same groups of teens hanging out together throughout the ship. Everyone looked to be having a good time and were all well behaved.

 

Since my kids are younger - I can't comment entirely on your daughters age group in the kids club. But I felt the programs were run well and the counselors were very good. Lots of activities and themes - which they loved. Not just movie watching and video games.

 

However, I would keep in mind that there definately aren't as many "other" activities (like bowling, mini golf, rock climbing etc.). My kids enjoyed the kids club and pools - and were very happy with that. Staff and other passengers were very nice to us - I didn't get a negative attitude from anyone for having kids on board. All the kids we saw on board were all well behaved.

 

I think during Easter you will find the same like minded families, those that don't want to be around kids - would not be booking a cruise during this time.

Celebrity is a great cruise line, but their target market / demographic is those aged 40 to 70 (give or take) and evident by their "Modern Luxury" campaign and the many photos of couples enjoying their ships vs families (also shown statistically by the ratings of their Kids Programs... Which can be found here on CC)

 

So although Celebrity welcomes families... In the same way they welcome those in 20s, this cruise line isn't naturally targeting that audience

 

You want something the kids will truly enjoy... Stick with Disney, Carnival, Royal Caribbean & Norwegian which all focus on a younger demographic & families

 

As a Mom, who has raised Pre-teens & teens, I much preferred my kids in supervised activities than left to their own devices (too many opportunities to get into stuff they should not)

 

From what I've read / seen on Celebrity the older the kids the more bored they are with Celebrity's Programs... As there are no Flow Riders - Ziplines - Rock Climbing - Skating Rink - Bowling Alley etc to keep them challenged / engaged with others their age...

 

So they "drop out" of the Kids Program, and "hang out" with like minded (or not) teens. And some get into trouble for sure... Either on their own, or by disturbing other pax

 

Lol, I gotta wonder how many teens go home saying Celebrity was their best cruise... Solely because it meant they spent a good part of their time day & night unsupervised, and to this day their Parents don't have a clue what they got up too. :rolleyes:

Great opinion but most of your comments have no facts behind them, just speculation. As I stated most teens on all lines go off on their own and I know that from experience.. I have found that most who complain about kids on Celebrity have no experience with children on the line. Why don't you post on things you actually know about from you two cruises. I'm done, don't see any reason why the rest of us should even post on this board..

I would think a holiday cruise would get the most kids of all ages on Celebrity and would be a great time to take them. I ONLY have one cruise on Celebrity, have not taken kids with me (mine are grown) but the few I saw on a 5 night cruise in March seemed to be enjoying themselves.

 

Now the 20 or so College "kids" that were on spring break thought they we in Cancun or Daytona, were loud and sometimes obnoxious. Several were booted from the casino as they did not seem to be able to stop cussing. They all seemed to be over 21 in actual age and around 16 in mentality. These were all males, the few ladies that were in the same age seemed to be on the cruise with their parents and at least in public were "well-behaved".

A suggestion I've seen on here many times. Have your older daughter check into the teen club the first night, they say that is when the teens meet others on the ship and if they don't go the first night, it is harder to find cruise buddies.

You made your point. And I suspect greatly exaggerating the "trouble" teens are getting into on Celebrity ships.........:rolleyes:

 

We'll be taking our 17 year old on Celebrity this winter and I have no doubt she'll have a great time, and stay out of "trouble".

I agree with you. I am not worried about my girls. They are very well behaved. I have to meet the parents of the kids I let them hang with. We have values and don't just let them wonder with anyone. Thanks for your pointers. I think celebrity will be fine. And anyone crying about the kids probably is aggregated by children

I would not say I am necessarily aggravated by children...

 

But I am bothered by those who are poorly behaved. Have I witnessed that on Celebrity... YES

 

Were they teenagers... Also a YES

 

Were they being troublesome because they were not occupied in a constructive way... But rather just "hanging out" ... YES

 

Were the Parents being irresponsible in not knowing what they were doing ... YES

 

Were the Parents present at times when things were happening... YES

 

Did this change anything... NO

 

Said people, children & adults went on to spoil the enjoyment of others around them

 

I am not the first or the last Celebrity Cruiser to have had these issues...

 

Afterall no one can enforce how a Parent parents (everyone knows that)

 

Some just believe that either Celebrity, the crew or their own kids will take care of themselves

 

Ships with more to do I truly believe make it easier for kids to burn off energy / stay busy and not become a problem to other Pax.

You clearly are a Parent with good values... And no doubt good kids.

 

In my experience, Not many Parents any more make an effort to get to know not only their kids friends, but also those Parents.

 

If you do these things.. Then I am guessing that the chances of your kids being bothersome to others or getting into trouble on a cruise are lower.

 

Which means no one is going to write about Your Kids In a Review / Trip Report here on CC

 

But then again to be fair to those that don't agree with me and my view on older kids on Celebrity...

 

Rarely does anyone ever write a Review about all the well behaved kids on CC... People are more apt to report what bothered them about the kids on board vs the good things

 

And oh ya, as stated at the beginning of my first post... This is indeed a contentious issue on the Celebrity Board
