swigso Posted May 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2014 I hope I dont offend anyone but I am thinking of booking a Med cruise on the Epic. The only thing concerning me is the Smoking Policy how bad is the smoking in the Casino, I Usually cruise on Celebrity and RCCL. Royal Caribbean allows smoking in the Casino at the Bar but not at the Tables how does it work on NCL. Thanks

Thanks If you do a search of Casino and Smoking you will find hundreds and hundreds of posts on this topic. This topic seems to come up weekly and quickly deteriorates into a fight between smokers and anti-smokers. Good luck in getting a serious answer before the war starts. Ilovesailing Posted May 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2014 The smoking on Europe cruises is absolutely without a doubt out of control. We did 14 day out of Venice and if we did this cruise again it would be in an ocean view room. The majority of Europeans are still smoking and rude about it as well. They will sit on their balcony at all hours of the night just to smoke and drink with their friends, I will admit they were reasonably quiet. Europeans are also known to eat late which means they are up late. The casino was one big cloud, glad we don't gamble but you have to walk by the smoke spit to get to other venues. bring2521 Posted May 19, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 19, 2014 Smoking doesnt normally bother me since I was once a smoker but a few years ago we took a Boston to Bermuda cruise and could not even walk into the casino due to the smoke... You could literally cut it with a knife so we never walked back in again. Due to this policy Ill never cruise Norwegian again :( I hope I dont offend anyone but I am thinking of booking a Med cruise on the Epic. The only thing concerning me is the Smoking Policy how bad is the smoking in the Casino, I Usually cruise on Celebrity and RCCL. cruzsnooze Posted May 19, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2014 Unfortunatly NCL allows smoking almost every where. If smoke is an issue RCL or celebrity or Princess is a better option.
dollydosh Posted May 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2014 Hi. We cruised on Epic last year and spent a lot of time in the casino. There is a non smoking section of tables but the machines directly adjacent to these tables have huge floor ashtrays by them and we found that when the theatre emptied people would just come and stand by these and smoke, so just as bad as in the main part of the casino. But at other times it was ok. We have just returned from a cruise on Jade and there were very few smokers in the casino and the people that did smoke were very courteous to us non smokers. gooch47 Posted May 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2014 No, they don't allow it "everywhere." Not in cabins, but it is allowed on balconies which can be a problem if your smoker neighbors are out there all the time and you are downwind. The smoke in the casino on the Jewel was almost unbearable. Dining is no problem.

Not true, but understand you're trying to make a point. It's not allowed in rooms or in any restaurant or public area unless those specified (parts of the casino, parts of the open deck, etc.) I'm pretty anti-smoking and never really had an issue with smoke or smokers on my NCL cruises. Yes, it can get ugly in the casino at times, but it's not that hard to avoid it. I agree that European smoking habits are a bit more intense than we're getting used to in the US. SteveH2508 Posted May 19, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) Unfortunatly NCL allows smoking almost every where. If smoke is an issue RCL or celebrity or Princess is a better option. This sort of hyperbole just lessens the value of any valid points you might make. NCL is more liberal with their smoking policy - but - there are only two indoor locations where smoking is allowed: the casino and the cigar bar. Outdoor smoking locations may be a few more - depends on the ship. Balcony smoking is a hot topic however. Short answer - if you cannot stand the odd chance of a whiff of smoke on a balcony - avoid NCL or HAL (who allow cigars on balconies (unlike NCL)).
