Just off Vision of the Seas today..Questions?

Recommended Posts

What hours are the food venues open for ice cream or snacks?

We're scheduled to sail on Vision in a few weeks.

I know smaller ships sometimes have limited open time to get a snack in the evening.

I was surprised to see the cones out for the self serve ice cream machines late into the evening.. We always stopped at the Park Cafe for late night snacks like pizza.. Park Cafe was open in the evening from 9pm to 2am

I was on the Vision a couple of weeks ago and will offer a comment about the cabins on deck 8 that are under the Solarium. While not unbearable there was certainly considerable noise from the overnight maintenance activities particularly from the various utility carts rolling across the tile deck. I won't say it woke me up, however it was very noticeable while I was trying to get back to sleep. We were in a JS and I'm sure there are more quiet cabins than in that area.

Agree. We were in a Jr Suite under the solarium on the starboard side. The carts across the tile sounded like aircraft were flying over. And it went on all hours of the day. I don't think the port side had as much cart traffic. The main pool area had a smooth floor so it probably wasn't as aggravating. The ship was nice but the refurb didn't fix the clingy shower curtain which is a minor complaint. The bowl type sinks look nice but the faucet does not extend out enough to get your hands under the water. Again, minor complaint.

Food quality was good especially in all three specialty restaurants. Izumi is fantastic and very affordable for lunch. Service in the MDR was the worst I have experienced. The pool and casino bars also had slow and unengaged service. Pool bartender kept sneezing while making drinks and the casino bartender was chewing his fingernails before preparing drinks.

Schooner bar service was fantastic. The service in the specialty restaurants was fantastic. But, overall, the crew did not seem as friendly as usual. Perhaps people were being trained.

What is formal night like on vision? I understand about the dress code but just wondering what the whole experience is like. We are trying to decide whether to do this or a specialty restaurant on formal night. First time cruiser so we have no knowledge of what to expect from either choice.

You will see stairs just beyond 8579 on the inside.. It will take you into the spa area..just walk thru into the Solarium.. Kinda strange walking thru the Spa but I'm sure the workers are used to it..Saves a lot of walking.. Have fun!

Oh..You will love the cabin!!

Thanks for the info. We will be staying in cabin 8572- so this will be very close to us- to use the "secret stairs"! Can't wait. We leave in 2 days.

Ok..So I have been told they are not a secret..just not on any maps so people don't know about them..lol They do come in handy though..I loved having the option to use them. Have a great trip!!

Just so you know..on Formal nights is usually the best food in the MDR.. We really liked going to Chops on the 1st night we boarded. Not very many people in there at all. Not crazy like the MDR can get sometimes.. You will get many different replies on how to dress.. I can tell you we saw everything.. I even saw some guy wearing shorts coming out of a specialty restaurant.. Just remember its a suggested dress code.. You will see people in suits & others not. Wear what you feel comfortable in.

ZAMBONIS:

The dress code is very relaxed . We had early seating and did not see any Tux's on the men on formal night. On smart casual nights, we saw men and women in shorts and t-shirts

MIKE&LORRAINE:

We had an OS under the WJ and we could hear the carts rolling. Fortunately, it didn't interfer with our sleep. It was mostly during the day

You will find drink package threads that offer complete info.

Dinner drinks are included within package stated limitations. Wine by the glass is included up to $12 and then you pay the difference above that. They have limited wine by the glass on Vision.

Thank you for this bit of information. My boyfriend and I will be on the Vision 01/10/15 and were wondering which drink package to choose and if $55 a day would be worth it. If wine is upwards of $12 a glass, I think we'll splurge and get them.

You can find house wine for around $9, but can select up to $12. On Vision can ask for receipt if want to leave extra gratuity. (some ships just give one)

When I ordered a $14 glass, I then paid $2 + 15% gratuity, signature needed.

Nice photos. Any experience using the internet on board? I am wondering how good the signal is. Also, does the ship have a Johnny Rockets?

We thought it was really good service, compared to other ships. We used it on the last day at sea, and it was like our AT&T service at home. We have been on some ships, where you just sat there, watching the minutes tick a way, but it wasn't slow like that on the Vision last month.:)
