czlahaina Posted June 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Hi! First time cruiser here. Going on the Summit from Bayonne to Bermuda in August. Staying in Sky Suite 6100. Hope I picked a good cabin. I chose "Traditional dining" at 8:30 PM. Hope that was a wise choice. I believe I will be able to choose other dining options than the MDR once aboard the ship. Big question - should I purchase the premium drink package? I understand that drinks are free in the casino and with three days in Bermuda, is it worth the $60/pp per day? I do love my cocktails during the day and enjoy wine with my dinner. $120/day for my husband and I seems a bit much. Any advice would be welcomed! Krazy Kruizers Posted June 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Only you can decide if you will drink that much to justify the price. Why not check on the Celebrity board about the prices of drinks when not using a drink package -- at this link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28 I know on HAL that we won't buy their drink package -- we don't drink a lot and they have too many restrictions -- one of them is it doesn't cover premium alcohol and we like Grey Goose - not covered. You may also want to check out your Roll Call. Just scroll down until you find the date of your cruise at this link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
cb at sea Posted June 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Unless you're a "high roller" and have some sort of casino perk, drinks are NOT free while gambling....this isn't like most casinos!!! Generally, you'll have to drink about 7 drinks a day pp for the drink package to "pay" for itself. We like late seating, and we prefer traditional, since we really enjoy having tablemates! Good choice!
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2014 I would post this question on the Celebrity board where you will get a lot more input on this. Keith
cruisead Posted June 9, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Drinks are NOT free at all in the casino. Sorry but whomever gave you that information is wrong. We've cruised on Summit to Bermuda, and never saw a free drink once, despite the fact that we were in the casino quite often. Only you can decide if it's worth it for you. Just make an estimate of how much you think you'll drink per day and that can help you decide. Remember to include bottled water, specialty coffees, soft drinks, smoothies, and all alcohol you'd drink in a day. If that adds up to more than the per diem, then it's worth it. Here's some prices to help you: Specialty Drinks like Pina Coladas are $6.50 to $8.50 Beer is $5 to $6.50 Martinis are $10 to $12 Specialty Teas and Coffees are $3 to $4.50 Wine by the Glass starts at $7 and way up from there Bottled water goes from $3 to $6 Soft Drinks are $2.25 a can All bar tabs have a 15% gratuity added. When you purchase a package, 15% is added to the total bill
czlahaina Posted June 9, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Thanks for the replies! Our trip is comped through our casino and our booking agent told me drinks were free in the casino. I guess she is wrong! I will contact her tomorrow to revisit this. I believe I will purchase the premium package! Thanks again!
