dfunfar Posted June 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2014 We are going on the August 31st sailing on Brilliance of the Seas from Harwich, England to Boston, MA. We will be staying in London prior to the cruise and was wondering the best way to get to the Harwich cruise port.
Rare LHT28 Posted June 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2014 lots of good information on the British Isles forum http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Velvetwater Posted June 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Also. I just wanted to add that if shuttles prove too expensive (its a little bit of distance in my eyes) there are so many quick and comfy train routes that depart and regular times. TheBeeSea Posted June 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Harwich is about 2 hrs or 90 miles outside London (depends a bit where in London you are) Have a look at THIS SITE for info. Also look at TRAINLINE
Rare John Bull Posted June 9, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2014 (edited) As other answers, the train is a good and economical way to Harwich from central London (but not London's airports). Hourly service, journey time about 1hr 20. Can cost as little as £8, from central London's Liverpool Street station (note, that's Liverpool Street, not Liverpool) to Harwich International, right alongside your ship. The journey involves one change of train at Manningtree. On cruise departure days there's also a "cruise special" train - that's direct but costs £30+ Details of all UK rail travel on http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ No scheduled coach service to Harwich. Private transfer - at a guess - £120+ Privately-operated "cruise bus" door-to-door via http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/harwich_london_transfers.htm costs £59 per person, but I think it's quite slow cos I think the same buses also picks up at Heathrow airport hotels. It's an established & reputable coach operator. BTW that London Toolkit website has excellent logistical info on London, check the various pages. Or RCI will be offering a ship's transfer, usually from Victoria coach station. JB :) Edited June 9, 2014 by John Bull

138east Posted June 9, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2014 I did this cruise last August. The roll call was fantastic and someone organized two buses and a luggage truck to take 70+ folks from the Westminster Doubletree directly to the pier at Harwich. You should check your roll call (it has 1800+ posts already) to see what other folks are doing and get connected. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1819440 Last month I took the train from Harwich to London Liverpool St Station after the Brilliance eastbound TA. You have to change trains at some point and that was very easy westbound. Going London to Harwich you have to carry luggage down and up stairs to the platform on the other side. If you take the cruise express train, you do not have to do this. Here's a helpful website about Harwich cruise transfers http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/harwich_london_transfers.htm
