Upgrades...

My DH and I already have a balcony room... Is there room for an upgrade or is this the best room we can get?

Generally there is absolutely no way to predict or otherwise determine if an upgrade is possible or probable. The cruise lines use proprietary methods to determine upgrades.

As Bruce said, the answer could vary by ship. There may be higher category Balcony cabins. There also may be suites. Both of these are considered upgrades, although some will argue certain cabins are not.

Do you mean a "free" upgrade? Which cruise line/ship are you sailing on? You may be able to upgrade to a better category if you are willing to pay for it. Call the cruise line and inquire.

Sorry, yes I mean a free upgrade. We are going on Carnival Dream in 5 weeks!! We have already received $300 OBC, but I noticed that it's possible to get a free upgrade.

Free upgrades are very rare. Ships are sailing full, so freebies aren't available for the most part, especially for first timers. Paid upgrades can be had, IF there are cabins available.

I would ask about this on the Carnival Board.

I would not get your hopes up for a free upgrade. Yes, they do happen, but not too often these days. Most are to a higher category of the same type cabin. In your case this would mean to a balcony cabin in a "better" location.
