Gem- Oceanview room worth an $80 upgrade?

I got a free cruise from my casino.

I'm going solo and booked a 7day cruise from nyc to Canada.

I got an 'upgraded' inside room (I1). it's located in the forward section. I have no idea why it's considered an upgraded room since its the same sq feet (138) as the rest of the inside rooms.

I can upgrade to an oceanview room for $80 more.

Worth it? Why?

I would especially if you can pick a non-obstructed picture window or porthole. The view and extra natural light is very nice and helps me from oversleeping. I always choose an oceanview over a inside cabin when the price difference is that low.

Also IMO there are no bad locations for the Oceanview cabins on Jewel-class ships (they are under other cabins not potentially noisy locations like under the gym). With even the obstructed oceanview cabins, the extra natural daylight is nice although because they these are on Deck 8, you may need to close the drapes at night due to the night lighting shining in from promenade Deck 7 (which didn't bother me).

I would do it, for the light and view of the ocean. Totally worth $80 to me.:)

Totally agree. We've sailed every type of cabin and just having a window to look out of is worth the extra money to us, unless you're only in your cabin to sleep. Inside is great, if you like good old dark rooms. :)

There's a lot of good suggestions in this thread. Over the years I've stayed in all types of cabins, starting with an inside. It's really personal preference and your lifestyle. We had to leave the bathroom light on to get some light at night while in an inside cabin, I've heard of some bringing a night light. Didn't care for the inside as we didn't know if it was night or day. I personally can't see sleeping the day away while on a cruise, but to each their own... I'd go for at least a porthole, as others said, it's easier to wake up to the light of day. My wife and I also spend tons of time on our balcony. Nothing like it. If you're getting the cruise for free, $300 for a balcony upgrade is nothing considering what you unloaded in a casino to get a free cruise.

Have had all different type of cabins, and insides never bother us. It depends on cruise, and how much time you think you would spend in cabin. My dh loves short afternoon naps, so the darker inside cabin works better for him. Any cabin is great, and there is nothing like a "free" casino cruise. $80 could be used for many dinners in special restaurants, or racking up points in the casino. Once again it depends on what you want out of the cruise. ENJOY

Safe sailing

very true. I basically bought this trip w/the amount of $ lost to earn my reward tier level.

but I'm not a cruiser. the only reason I even looked into it is because it's free.

thx for the info about port holes and waking up to natural light

What is a CAS card and how do I get one? :)

CAS means *Casinos at Sea* ... which is kinda like the *players club* onboard ... and you can get a drink card along with your CAS players card on the ship ... IF you booked thru the CAS dept. of NCL ... or if your gaming qualifies you while onboard ;)

Both NCL and Caesars/Harrah's are owned by the same company (Apollo) ... so they have special offers (fares/perks) between them. So if you're a land-based player ... it's definitely something worth checking out :p
