Your impressions of the Silhouette

Yes they do offer bingo, etc. There is a lot of entertainment around the ship on sea days and at night. The casino is open shortly after the ship leaves port until late into the night. On a sea day it is open pretty much all day. They also run slot and poker tournaments on sea days. The same thing for the shops. They typically open shortly after they clear each port and are open until 10-11pm most nights. Shops and the casino are not allowed to be open unless the ship is in international waters.

We have not been on the Silhouette yet but we have been on the Equinox and on the Allure. I would choose the Celebrity S class over the Allure/Oasis any day but I don't surf or zip line or rock climb....we also found the food on Celebrity to be much much better.

Sometimes they have miniature golf on the lawn and they always have bocce ball tournaments. There is a basketball court in the front of the ship and there is an extensive and well-equipped gym

Do people actually use the lawn? Do they ever have events or music on the lawn?

We just got back from a med cruise on the silhouette, on at least 3 occasions in the evenings there was music on the lawn, there was blankets and pillows two of the occasions served wine and cheese (included in beverage package) and one served sangria. There might well have been more than 3.

The lawns are generally a quiet place though with few people using them.

The sunset bar on the back of the ship by the lawns is one of our favourite spots on the ship and the lawn club grill speciality restaurant by the lawn is another favourite spot (extra charge to eat here $40 I think) serves the most amazing filet mignon and the shrimp and scallop skewers are fantastic too.

At night, is there a place for drinks, music, and perhaps even some dancing?

Yes, of course there are lots of bars and music everywhere. The Martini Bar is a favorite, and later at night the sky lounge on 14 forward has music, drinks, dancing, etc, tThere is karaoke, different events like Dancing with the Officers, all kinds of things like that scattered throughout the trip.

Yes, people, grab blanket from the pool area and spread them on the lawn; they often have a picnic type event with wine and cheese and music. There are hammocks too. It's a very lively place! The Sunset Bar is just aft of the lawn and also very popular at cocktail time--the waiters are a lot of fun, too.

What REALLY makes a cruise IMO is meeting fun like-minded people to hang out with--I was on a cruise once with 13 fun people and we had a ball. Neil Armstrong and his wife were also on board and they spent the entire time sitting by themselves looking bored and we SO wanted to invite them to come over and have some fun!!

There are multiple bars, some of them can be very quiet some are busy with loud music and dancing. The martini bar is alot of fun and there are 2 djs playing there from 10pm (i think) to 1pm with plenty of people dancing, the bartenders are fun too doing tricks.

I much prefer the drinks in the molecular bar though but in our experience this bar can be very quiet.

There is a nightclub but I have no real experience of this.

There will also be parties some evenings and they will generally start with a short 20 or 30 minute mini show with the silhouette cast who will be dressed up and dance which will end with them getting the people watching to get up and dance with them, they will hang around for a while dancing untill the party is in full swing and they will leave. Once this party quiets down those who wish to continue head to the martini bar.

It's really a stunning ship, with great service. weather you want the extra entertainment of a big RCL ship though is up to you, we've only been on 2 cruises both celebrity so can't fairly comment, we were hoping our next cruise would be with a different line but everyone we spoke too on the ship who were trying celebrity for the first time after cruiseing elsewhere said this was the best they had experienced so we booked again.

I have been on Oasis and on Silhouette. Oasis is larger, has water show and ice show which are great. They have rock climbing and surfing. Silhouette is a quieter ship, better food than Oasis, but still has activities. It depends on what your looking for. By the way, if your doing eastern carib, there is free cell service in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, ie St. Thomas.

We sail on Silhouette in December. Part of me wishes that Silhouette retained the hot glass show instead of the Lawn Club Grill, as we will have several older women in our group that, I think, would have particularly liked that show. I don't think another for-fee dining venue there does our group any good. Regardless, the Silhouette sailing fits our schedule better, and we are looking forward to it.

Is it possible to sail the Silhouette without spending another dime on board the ship (excluding excursions)? My spouse and I might enjoy a specialty restaurant, but I know others in our party are saving up just to be able to afford the cruise fare.

It's absolutely possible. Two main things that we spend money on are non-included drinks and a specialty restaurant visit or two but both of those are totally skippable if you are trying to save money

One comes to mind: is there enough to do on the ship during the day? I wonder if the better option is to go with a ship like Oasis or Allure. However, I found an attractive price on the Silhouette, plus a free beverage package. Makes it difficult to pass up!

Silhouette is a great ship. Been on her twice. We enjoyed both cruises although the second one was marred by Miami DJ and banging drummer...but easily avoided if you are so inclined, AQ/Blu was great as was specialty dining, ship itself is awesome, same for staff and officers. Easy to get around on board, no big crowds at pools, shows or buffet. Really a top notch ship and cruise experience...great spa!

We disliked Oasis....to us it is like a floating shopping mall w/food court! Parts we enjoyed included he awesome nightly Diamond gathering , rear pool solarium area and decks around it...also found a quiet hot tub w/TV that was not over run just outside the solarium area.Specialty dining was nice, esp Giovannis and the nightime dining in the cafe near the back deck...forgot the name...it was beautiful and had some interesting foods.. MDR was pedestrian as to food quality and service. Also enjoyed the Crown Viking lounge during the

day for peace and quiet,,, only good spot because the library was jammed with folks napping!

The internet area was an interior closet..could not compare to Silhouette

The musical groups on Oasis other than Jazz and Island Band were not very good...surprisng because Royal usually beats Celeb in this area

the spa area was awkward in layout...mediocre service.

Had to book events ahead of time..like water show, skating show etc.. Always felt crowded everywhere and constantly walking about. Very windy on outer decks so bands could not ply much outdoors. Seemed geared to families with children...lots for

them to do. Our dtr and son in law liked the rock wall, zipline flow ruder but also felt it was not enough to compensate for the mediocre food and entertainment.

Really depends on what you are looking for...some foljs love the ship and all it offers for them..but if you pick Silhouette I do not think you will be disappointed! It lives up to motto Modern Elegance.
