valleyvillage Posted June 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2014 We sail the Star quite a bit, love her and LOVE sea days! I go to the gym first thing in the morning, and then to the Spa. If you have a lot of sea days, the spa would be a great investment. It is a great place to relax, does not get crowded, two heated therapy pools and a lap pool. The dressing areas have sauna, steam, and the men's side has a cold and hot plunge! There will be special meal offerings on sea days, usually. YMMV. We like the Indian brunch, the jazz brunch, the best of everything. It's hard to know what will be on what cruises, but check it out. There are usually activities planned for the sea days, and you can read about them in the daily paper. Be sure to join your Roll Call! If yours is kind of dead, jump in and suggest some sea day activities: cabin crawl, group meal, slot pull, gift exchange. Have a terrific cruise! Cubechick Posted June 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2014 There are a lot of things going on during sea days. They offer a good variety of activities I find.
FreestyleNovice Posted June 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Not much, on the longer cruises they use the public spaces to haul cargo and live stock. They need to keep the revenue up..
Ilovesailing Posted June 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Is there much to do when you are at sea, we have quite a few at sea days on our cruise.. They will have things to do like art auction, jewellery/watches and other women's stuff for sale in the atrium. possibly bingo and games at the pool. The casino will also be open plus they run slot games and poker turny's We enjoy sea days to just veg read and get tanned. Trust me you won't get bored. There is also a library and games room with every game u can think of.
don't-use-real-name Posted June 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Are you doing a transatlantic or perhaps a Panama Canal trip or something else? I am sure that NCL will always have something of interest to do while just at sea ! And you can always make do with something on your own like finishing reading the favorite book that you just seem to find not enough time to finish. Take a trip around on the jogging track and see how many different things you can observe about people out and about. Take in a culinary class if offered ! Take in sales promotion for a future cruise - if you are a real cruise enthusiast ! But simply do not sit in your stateroom expecting NCL to bring a theater to you. Ignore the boob tube - go to the ships library and see if they have the daily puzzle sheet or other activity planned. Maybe they are offering a Bridge tour or a Galley tour - first timers it can be very enlighten to see ship activity behind the scenes. They possibly may have a first run movie in one of the entertainment area - popcorn provided * * sometimes ! And as always you can go to the spa or gym to make room for those additional pounds that you plan on putting on in the MDR or Speciality Restaurant ! And did I mention 'People Watching' as an art form ? It is your dime - spend it wisely - enjoy everything about your cruise !
jonbgd Posted June 20, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2014 As someone that hasn't been on the Star I would wonder what is onboard as well. On our upcoming PC cruise, we have a couple different events planned on different sea days, from our roll call. Besides one day is panama canal transit Our last NCL cruise was an Epic TA. There was something going on everyday. While I know there wont be the dining options on the Star, Im sure the CD will have plenty of Trivia and other things to keep us entertained during sea days. garycarla Posted June 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 20, 2014 Is there much to do when you are at sea, we have quite a few at sea days on our cruise.. Most folks tend to love the sea days and find things to do. We have done many longer cruises with extra sea days. Not a problem, really. And, really the same on most all ships - not just the Sun.

If Tony Winkler is back as hotel director, you will be thrilled with these events...or if his assistant who took over in February after he went on break is the HD, he might do things the same way. The CC group had two events...one the usual and then Tony invited us to a followup at the Star Bar (with drinks) to give feedback on the cruise. We were also invited on a bridge tour. For the OP, be sure to go to your Roll Call and sign up for the CC gathering so you don' miss out on these extras we've only received on the Star. Tony is fabulous! There are all the things the others have mentioned. My only beef was there were multiple things at the same time in the morning and not as many I was interested in in the afternoon. As someone has said, the gym and spa are very nice. DH took a nap and I read in the afternoons as well as doing the daily puzzles. Wonderful cruise! Enjoy! Markanddonna Posted June 21, 2014 #12 Share Posted June 21, 2014 I was on their TA this past spring and I think the entertainment was very good to excellent. They made an effort to have all sorts of options: bridge instruction, cooking demos, card/game areas, trivia, lectures (I didn't attend any), a few daytime shows, some dance lessons by the crew, exercise classes, some newer movies in the theater,Bible study, pool activities since the weather was pretty awesome. Yes, there are wine tastings and craft classes. We did perhaps one or two daytime activities but mostly walked, exercised, read, and brought our own favorite game. The CC group was very active. Be sure to check out some of the reviews of the StarTA.

I'm not sure if he's still there. I hope so as I'll be sailing the Star again in September! I have such fond memories of my Star B2B cruise through the Panama Canal! It was my best cruise to date!
