Cougardave Posted June 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We're going on an Alaskan cruise for the first time on July 5th. I understand the weather is unpredictable so we need to be prepared. But what about when we're aboard the Westerdam? Do people wear shorts and summer clothes? Is the ship cold?
gina06 Posted June 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) I saw a lot of people in shorts, and I found some parts of boat felt like the ac was on full blast. Just traveled on the westerdam may 31 to June 7. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app Edited June 21, 2014 by gina06
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2014 You will see people in shorts and slacks. For Alaskan cruises we just take 1 pair of bermudas each just in case we have a warm day on land. Otherwise we just wear slacks.
Rare puppycanducruise Posted June 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2014 And don't forget your bathing suit! It's wonderful sitting in the hot tub watching that beautiful scenery roll by. On our cruise, not many people thought it would be warm enough to use the pool and hot tub, so it wasn't crowded.
RuthC Posted June 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2014 I've gone from sweatshirt & jacket to lightweight summer clothes in the same day. It really is changeable there! Most of the time, though, if shorts would be in order, slacks are fine, too. It's the tops that need adjusting more often.
Sam.Seattle Posted June 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Have been to Alaska many times.... Just bring "layers" and a hat. With layers and water proof lightweight rain jacket, you will be fine. If you really want to be spotted as a tourist, bring an umbrella too! HA...
Boytjie Posted June 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) We experienced temps on the 50's in Juneau, the upper 30's in Glacier Bay and the mid 70's in Sitka and Ketchikan. So we went from bundled up outside to sunning by the pools and coming home with a sun tan. Inside it felt not much cooler than on any of the Caribbean cruises we have been on, though looking at pictures I see a more jeans vs shorts indoors. PathfinderEss Posted June 21, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Have been on many Alaskan cruises and what we have seen, is that most passengers wear jeans during the day.
sail7seas Posted June 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We had beautiful weather in Alaska but I was fine in cotton pants on the ship. We never wore shorts though certainly some other pax did.
