Rare AtSeaWithChris Posted June 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Our roll call was pretty dead until last 2 weeks. Can you book an open bar onboard? If you can, can people transfer funds from their sign and sail to the person booking it through guest services desk? Thanks!! Fist-pumping gleeful rum runner!!! SadieN Posted June 26, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Are you talking about a Cocktail Party? Those are booked and paid for ahead of time. Could just have everyone meet in a certain area at a certain time. Usually we end up wearing Mardi Gras beads as an identifier.
Carnival_Brides Posted June 26, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) You can book a private party, but the rates have gone up substantially (like doubled). Also, you'd have to have them PayPal or send money ahead of time as it all has to be paid and organized when you book, so sail and sign won't work. It might be best to schedule to meet in a particular bar area and buy drinks like you normally would. Rare AtSeaWithChris Posted June 26, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Yes, booking an open bar cocktail party after embarkation. We couldn't get enough steam on our roll call until this last week and not in time enough to book it. So I wondered if anyone knows if you can book one onboard and can people pay by way of sign and sail cards, through guest services, by transferring to the person booking it. I just wasn't sure how much they could or couldn't do to book one and let people transfer funds. On that last note, could someone, like a family group member, go to guest services and transfer money to another passenger? That way, the family group can deal with their numbers and 1 person pay the passenger organizing the party? We have 3 groups that could potentially be interested. So it wouldn't be 20 or more people going to guest services to transfer money, if they can at all. Fist-pumping gleeful rum runner!!!
GROUCHPUSS Posted June 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Yes you can book a party on board, at least you could before the price changes took effect. You still would need at least 20 paid people and all must pay for the same package. No more non alcoholic mixed with alcohol pricing. They would charge one persons SS card. Also this would be something that would have to be planed, don't expect to go and ask to have a same day party. Don't know if you can get money off SS card a GS but you could do the Casino trick and deposit money in player bank and then cash it out.

jimdalva Posted June 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 26, 2014 Many Meet & Greets fizzle out. Be careful of paying ahead for all and getting left holding the bag.
riffatsea Posted June 26, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 26, 2014 It would be easier to just pick a spot on board near one of the bars to meet and let folks buy their own drinks! Simple!

The person who arranges it will charged on their sign and sail card for the 20 people. If you have no shows-- you still have to pay. the people will have to pay you -- they can not have the funds transferred off their card to yours-- I agree with the suggestion to meet up at a bar-- and pay as you go. Especially since the party covers 3 drink prices...

Boozebabe Posted June 26, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 26, 2014 You'll spend all your time beforehand hunting people down for their money. DON'T DO IT AT THIS POINT!!!! I once arranged for about 25 people to meet on embarkation day to have a drink together. We arranged to meet at the casino bar. NO ONE showed but me. Everyone was to buy their own drinks so I wasn't out any money. These are basically strangers so you don't know what they will do. I even forgot about a meet & greet once. That was before the day when everyone had to pay in order to attend. Meet & greets are OK and I've met some very nice people but it can get a bit weird too. Once a couple showed up who thought it was a "swingers" group. Boy were they surprised. I would just suggest to the others to meet at a certain place and time and all buy your own drinks. tncap Posted June 26, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 26, 2014 At this point, I would only do it if you had a roll call going on a social media website that cannot be named here. At least then there would be a semblance of accountability.
GROUCHPUSS Posted June 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) You may be able to still get a room and server for a cash bar for free. The new open bar parties are not that good. You do not really get an open bar you have to choose a few drinks and that is all you can order. For me I want to drink what I like not what is forced on me. NolaZach Posted June 26, 2014 #18 Share Posted June 26, 2014 I did a meet and great on the Fantasy years ago and we all put up (it wasn't much, maybe $20?) and had a few drinks and a private spot on the ship. We all did a potluck gift giving too. Where we drew numbers and picked a bag with a gift from the givers town or city. I gave a ton of new orleans foodstuffs and mixes and got a Notre Dame pillow (which I forgot on the boat, lol)
