any solo cruiser have luck with double obc or drink cards?

I fully understand that as a solo cruiser I pay for 2 people or 200% fare and I am fine with this. What I am not fine with is that the $50 beverage card promo is $50 per person and they only want to give me one card. I have been advised all along that I can add a 2nd person to the booking and would get a 2nd card for the promo. I sent an email and spoke to my PCC and advised her that I expect 2 $50 cards and she said she is working on it and hopefully will come up with some solution.

Has anyone else had any luck getting this type of situation worked out as a solo cruiser?

The way I read "solo cruiser pricing" is that you pay the fare for one - therefore you get the benefits for one. The fact that you pay more (lots more) for one person in a cabin is a separate issue. I know that's not the answer you want - but it's the way I see it.

You are one person and the offer is one card per person.

Well, you are just one person.

But you are paying the price of two people:rolleyes::confused:. Would you be ok sharing a card with who you cruise with? Singles pay the same amount as you. Why should they be treated differently?

As one who travels solo, I agree!! It would be nice if they would let us bring 2 bottles of wine charge-free as well.

Of course, we don't have to pay twice the gratuities, and I do like that.

I guess we can't have it both ways... :/

Yes, but I'm willing to bet we make less mess. I almost always leave my cabin stewards an extra tip on top of the hsc so that's not really a valid argument. If a couple removes their hsc would they have to turn in their beverage card?

It's called free market capitalism. If you don't like the pricing, surely you take your business elsewhere. $50 shouldn't be the deciding point on a cruise.

I never said $50 was worth cancelling over but I am entitled to ask HAL for anything I wish and they are entitled to say no.

As for double credit for loyalty programs....FYI I always got double on princess....my understanding is that dosent happen with HAL

Nope, doesn't happen on Hal.

Some of the posts on here are so predictable. Hal can do no wrong. It would be a different story if Hal penalized couples in favor of singles. That would be a huge problem then :D.

Where did I say it was the deciding point on a cruise? Kindly don't put words in my mouth.

Have been thinking about this for a while -- if a solo is paying 200% (which is what it often costs), would there be any down side to booking a friend on the res, to get the 2nd "whatever" and then have the friend just be a no-show at sailing? Don't cancel the friend, just have them not sail.....

People do it all the time...

Their "friend" just doesn't show up at the port.

The tricky part is the name and passport number.

One other way to look at this is the "per fare" instead of per person. Assuming that generally at least two people sail in a cabin, the prices that are advertised are by deduction, "per person" . So, when it is advertised that with a fare of let's say $600 there is a promo that you get a $50 drinks card, it is not illogical to think that when paying two fares (200% of the so called regular fare) when you are cruising solo, you get two cards.

Just my humble opinion... as a solo traveler who was just wondering about that.

As for the comparaison with tips, I see it this way: I give you x$ for one fare, you give me one card ( two fares, two cards...;) ) ; you give service to one person, you get one tip.

But, we can also retreat to the use of the word "person" and the fact that they say, per person. So technically that is correct, I understand that this discussion is a little about is it right.

$50 is for sure not a deal breaker, but is the same amount of money that make you happy when you win it at the casino and not think that you won nothing.

Happy sailings!

I think Hal should have a promo for singles. If a single books they get a beverage card. If couples book they get nothing. That thread would be 10 pages long in 10 minutes saying how unfair Hal is being:D

Try it! It's a slow Tuesday and it will be refreshing to have something new to fight about. :)

I think that many of the promos should be based on the room, rather than on the number of occupants, especially when the fare is double. Things like a 2 bottle allowance for wine seems like a no brainer. Same with giving 2x $50 beverage cards. OBC seems like it should be per cabin.

The only promo I'm a little skeptical of is the Signature Beverage Package. Although I guess it would be easy to spot the solo travelers as they close in on their 30th drink. :D

I think I should try that:D. Nothing like a fresh new fight to get the blood pumping:p. I think it should be per cabin. If I have 30 drinks in one day I'll be dead, unless it's water.

HAL gives the on-board spending bonus to only the first two passengers in the cabin, not the third or fourth. This suggests that they give out these extra Mariner Cruise Day Credits on a per cabin basis, not a per passenger basis. So I would think that they should give the solo occupant of a cabin the Mariner points of two passengers -- for days sailed and for onboard spending. Doing this for the onboard spending bonus would give the solo cruiser exactly the right number of credits, irrespective of whether he or she spends more or less than a passenger sharing a cabin, which seems to be a common topic of discussion in this forum.

I hope this makes sense. ;)

For an upcoming cruise I have booked on NCL, for which the single supplement is 100%, the Personal Cruise Consultant booked me as both the first and second passenger in the cabin -- same name, date of birth, passport number, etc. She said that this would cost me exactly the same amount as if I booked with another person -- real or phantom -- and would allow me to add a companion as a replacement for the "second me" up until the deadline for changing one name on the reservation. (I'm not sure if this deadline is at final payment or later.)

If I don't replace the "second me" with a traveling companion, I assume that he will be treated as a "no-show." I wonder what will happen if I purchase the unlimited beverage package -- will I have to purchase another for my phantom roommate?

I think you misunderstood my post. I didn't say it was right to pay double and get no double benefits. I said "solo pricing" is just that - the price for one person in a cabin. Most times it happens to be the same as two people, but I don't believe that's how it's quoted. It is quoted as the "solo traveler fare." If that fare is 150% - what happens to the benefits? What if it's 175%?

Hopefully I have made my point a little clearer. Personally I think the confusion is that most passengers say "I paid for two, but I'm just one" when in reality they didn't pay for two passengers - they paid the "solo cruiser" fare.
