Mary49 Posted July 3, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) What a great cruise! The band ‘Music Boardwalk’ at the Casino Lounge was really good. They play mostly 50’s and 60’s music and drew a huge crowd every night. Lots of people were dancing and really enjoying themselves. The only complaint is that they need a larger area with more seats. They were lots of people standing due to lack of seating. cruisergrandma, yes I also loved this band. At one time they use to play in a lounge area where there are more seats and much more comfortable to dance. But since they are starting their cutbacks, I don't think they give them a lounge anymore to perform. I just saw them in May. And I'm a little disappointed in the change that Carnival did. They play in the traffic area and I think its not a good thing that they did. They're too talented and deserve a lounge to play in again. It was much more fun and they played longer hours...... Enjoyed your review. Edited July 3, 2014 by Mary49
bailey57 Posted July 3, 2014 #27 Share Posted July 3, 2014 Cerry in Aruba charges by the hour. You can schedule as much time as you want. We did 3 hours. Cost was $45 per hour. That is for up to 4 people. Martin in Curacao charged $150 for a 4 hour tour for up to 4 people. It is wonderful to do a private tour. In our case it was hubby and I with a tour guide. We went at our own pace, saw what we wanted to see, stopped when we wanted to stop and asked all the questions we wanted to ask. We always try to do a private tour when possible. Thanks - yes, I prefer that as well, and best with a local. Don't like the crowds and 'herding' that come with cruiseline excursions. ;) Thanks again for the info and review. Enjoyed your review. I wrote to JH about our cruise and biggest and only entertainment complain is sticking the band in the worst possible place accross from casino. They have a nice lounge on deck 4 that is hardly used and another one opposite piano bar that often just has a single musician playaing. JH said he would speak to the CD about it but dont understand at all why they do this.
Shaded Lady Posted July 3, 2014 #29 Share Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) Cruisergrandma (love your screen name btw, probably would have used it if it wasn't already taken!) The official policy per Carnival is that Weddings, Diamond then Platinum are supposed to board, in that order... only then are the FTTF folks supposed to board. But from what I understand, some FTTF cruisers just move up and start to board whenever... it also sounds like there is some inconsistencies within Carnival itself as to whether they strictly adhere to their policies... I'm Gold, and purchased FTTF for the first time for my next cruise, so I'm interested to hear how they do it in Galveston- I've heard they're pretty strict about it there. One interesting point that I heard was that until FTTF Platinums didn't have the perk of getting your cabin early, but when they introduced FTTF they gave that perk to the Platinums as well. Is that right? If so I think it's smart marketing on Carnival's part to give something to those who earned it, based on what they're selling to others... I'd think that would alleviate a bit of the kvetching from Platinums. Edited July 3, 2014 by Shaded Lady

It gets very noisy because of people traffic and I saw where the lounges are where they could have played what a shame. I have written numerous times about it. I hope JH can do something. I don't want to see them all being dropped from Carnival.
