Sherbertscamper Posted July 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2014 We will be on a 7day coastal cruise leaving from San Fran and visiting LA, Santa Barbara, Ensenada, and San Diego. Cruise is in October. Is it worth the extra money for a balcony? I suspect there are no whales and too far from the coast to see anything. Also, too cool to use the ship pool? Thanks! KirkNC Posted July 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2014 Unless we get very favorable pricing, we seldom get a balcony.
BruceMuzz Posted July 5, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2014 Champagne or not? Caviar or not? Ferrari or not? First Class Air Ticket or not? All of these questions are valid. All have the same answer. If you can afford it, it's generally worth it. And as the Duchess of Windsor aptly said, "If you have to ask how much it costs, you probably cannot afford it." He's right. :) I was on a similar 8 day cruise last March, had a balcony, saw whales, dolphins, birds, etc. and just loved it. But I can't stand to be "trapped" in a room so am willing to pay extra just so I can sit out on the balcony. It's all a matter of personal choice and cost. Enjoy your cruise! :D

linga Posted September 10, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 10, 2014 After our first balcony, we've never gone back to not having one. It's so nice to have it!
sk8terchick Posted September 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 10, 2014 On the same cruise :) Was in an inside then got upgraded to an OV obstructed. Did not like the OV location. I called and got upgraded to an Aloha balcony for both my husband and I for $150 total. Also ended up with $200 shipboard credit when I switched so well worth it for us. Best thing is call your travel agent or Princess and see how the prices are doing. I hit my travel agent on a good day!! From what I have seen so far looks like our weather will be mid 70's. Have a great day
poolwife Posted September 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 12, 2014 No. Not worth it and I usually get a balcony. This will mostly be out at sea and cooler. Sailing Alaska a balcony is totally worth it but not on this one. My opinion only. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Putterdude Posted September 12, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 12, 2014 We generally get a balcony but for that itinerary you are so far out at sea you are not going to see anything from a balcony. An OV would be just fine.
cruising cockroach Posted September 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 13, 2014 The California population of Blue whales is said to be 97% of pre-hunting population (the only population of the species to have recovered well) so you might well see some
LeftcoastBC Posted September 13, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 13, 2014 A balcony is ALWAYS better... for fresh air anytime, hanging off when goin' into and out of port etc etc .but only if in your budget.
