ggglo Posted July 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Just returned last night from 12 days on Silhouette. We are elite with celebrity and have cruised about 80 times with every cruise line. Our experience was exceptional. Celebrity knows how to put it all together. The s class ships are the best. Our food and dining service was faultless. Recommend the silhouette and reflection to all! (Only 2 solstice class ships I've been on). We've sailed on princess, holland America, Oceania, and every other cruise line. Loved this one for value and quality!!! mvtshops Posted July 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2014 I'm a newbie sailing for the first time in November. I'm curious to know if you purchased any of the specialty dining packages. I can't decide if it's worth it or not. Thanks in advance for the feedback!
Cruise a holic Posted July 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2014 I'm a newbie sailing for the first time in November. I'm curious to know if you purchased any of the specialty dining packages. I can't decide if it's worth it or not. Thanks in advance for the feedback! We typically take the unlimited specialty dining package which can be purchased the first day on board. Especially great on the Reflection and Silhouette as you have more speciality restaurant options then the other ships. It was $29. pp per day (back in March) and you could eat in all of the restaurants, including Bistro on Five , which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. On those two ships, you can enjoy the Lawn grill, which IMO is the best of the speciality restaurants, and the Porch for lunch. Also, depending upon the cruise, at least one of the main specialty restaurants serves lunch per cruise Enjoy your cruise.
Eddie's Girl Posted July 16, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 16, 2014 We will be on Silhouette for the first time in the Baltic next summer. If it is anything like Reflection we will love it. As for specialty dinning...we find the dining room very good but we do go to the specialty restaurants too. We just wait to book until we're on board because there always seem to be special offers. ggglo Posted July 16, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted July 16, 2014 We loved the dining room food! We didn't find any need to go to specialty restaurants. Got everything we wanted and well prepared and served!
Cruise a holic Posted July 16, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2014 We loved the dining room food! We didn't find any need to go to specialty restaurants. Got everything we wanted and well prepared and served! I would have agreeded with you. However, once I tried a couple of the specialty restaurants- I realized just how much better they are. I especially enjoyed the Lawn Grill and Qsine- Tuscan Grill meat-so-so, Pasta great! The Normandie is also very good- they prepare a wonderful lobster dish and great Chateau Briand. For lunch Bistro on Five- great service, very good food- no fighting to find a table- the same with the porch. IMO the food in the MDR is okay, the speciality restaurants great. Just my opinion. We recently got off the Reflection. The MDR in my opinion was ok, some things ok, some things really good, so thing not that great. I really liked Tuscan Grille - we went back twice. The rest were good but we didn't choose to go back. Everyone's taste is so different you just gotta try and decide for yourself :-)
SC_Floaters Posted July 16, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Thanks for the post on the Silhouette. Glad to hear you liked it so much. We've done the Solstice and enjoyed it a couple years ago... We've signed up for the Connections Roll Call (only 8 couples so far). Dennis & Sue
Ksqrd Posted July 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 16, 2014 We are scheduled to go on a British Isles Cruise next summer on the Silhouette. Do you have any advice of what cabin to stay in? We always get a balcony but are trying to decide between a SV cabin or a C2 cabin. Any advice?

mvtshops Posted July 16, 2014 #15 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Decisions decisions. I may get a plan just to get a feel for what works best for us. That way we can plan better for future cruises. Glad to hear the propulsion problem didn't affect the cruise. I was getting a bit worried about it. Welcome home!

Had a nice buffet on sea day (only had one) at the regular lunch buffer. Nice but not spectacular!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your cruise. We're sailing on the Silhouette September 12th and have rec'd an email from Celebrity that there was a change to our itinerary and have read on CC that others sailing on her have also rec'd changes to their itineraries due to a propulsion problem on the ship, she cannot go as fast therefore changes to arrival times in ports. Did you experience any deviations from your arrival times to the ports of call? Thanks.

dz9yvr Posted July 17, 2014 #23 Share Posted July 17, 2014 No, ship extremely smooth and quiet. Not even a vibration! Hi, We were on the same cruise and during this itinerary we never traveled very far between port so it's a little difficult to gage propulsion problems. I will say that the current Captain is very punctual. If you are supposed to be in port at 8:00 am, They are making an announcement at 8:00 am that the gangway was open. Not 8:01 or 7:55, I have never seen anyone be that precise to a schedule. I will disagree with the vibration comment. Every time they use the forward thrusters there was some significant vibration, much more than I experience on other ships. It even felt like they were using the forward thruster during the one windy night to help steer the ship, because that vibration was noticeable during the night. We certainly did not notice anything that would make me worry. I will echo the OP's comments that it was a great cruise and every aspect of cruise was great. I agree with your comments although we didn't notice vibration. Also depends on your location. We were midship. See you are going on oasis and allure. We love those ships. Doing transatlantic on oasis sept. 1. Also taking family New Years cruise!
