Inside v outside v balcony on Pacific Jewel

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all

So this might seem like a simple question to answer but we are looking at booking the 9 night Pacific Jewel cruise from Sydney departing on 19th September (after an initial hiccup).

We have the choice of inside at $800ishpp

Outside $920pp

Balcony $1250pp

I have only been in an inside cabin before so as a couple the view and or balcony appeals.

We can afford either, but the extra $700 would be spending money. We were also thinking of a night in Sydney after we got back which we could scrap perhaps if you thought the balcony was worth the extra cost.

Opinions please :)

Personally I would probably stay home if I couldn't have a balcony but I spend a fair bit of time in my room with the door open.

The big balcony door is open all night.

An inside cabin has two big negatives n my mind, you never know if it is day or night and you have no idea what it is like outside. Wake up run up on deck to see rain or shine, back to room to dress. Maybe outside is the compromise but check window size and obstructions or you dont get much view.

If they had a big floor to roof window an outside would do me but usually it is a dinky little window.

I prefer an outside with window (am cruising on Spirit with a balcony next month though - purely best price), I find inside too dark and you can lose track of time (yes, and the weather!). If it comes down to extra spending money and extra time to spend away then I would go the outside cabin.

:D

if you put your past passenger number into the p&o site those prices you quoted are different as you can get an inside from $750....outside $815 and a balcony for $1150

we normally stay inside because what we save pays for another cruise or go towards your bar bill

on p&o the cabins are a good size, much bigger than princess

the person that said they would stay home if they couldnt get a balcony thats not true as any cabin would do instead of staying home and they are not allowed to leave the balcony door open of a night as it affects the air cond for the different cabins plus if it rains during the night it could ruin the carpet

Always inside for us, unless we can get outside or balcony for the same price, which we have done a couple of times. we spend so little time in our room and even when we did have the balcony we hardly used it, was handy for drying the togs/towels but that was just about it. We prefer to travel cheap and frequent. best sleep I ever have on a cruise is when we have an inside. Downside of outside is that often there in maintenance going on overnight and the crew are constantly chatting as they work. In the still of the night it is quite loud and has woken me on numerous occasions.

What is important to you? Do you prefer privacy or are you happy mingling on the decks with other passengers?

If you prefer privacy then the balcony cabin would be a good choice since you could sit out there away from the crowds. Otherwise one of the other two cabins would enable you to have your overnight stay in Sydney as well. The oceanview cabin is only a bit more than the interior and would allow you to see the sea (and the weather) without leaving your cabin.

The type of room you need really depends on the type of traveller you are :) if u spend most of the time out of the room, there is no point paying for a balcony. I like the fresh air, the ability to take port pictures in a dressing gown and I like to read while my travel buddies go to the shows (I am not a fan) - so for me a balcony adds to the whole trip. We tried an inside room once and regretted it. Work out what you want to do - what the holiday is for, and that should help you decide :) enjoy! :)

How about an inside at the rear on deck 9,10, 11, they all have access to the aft deck. Although I haven't been on Pacific Jewel (only for tour and lunch, so I have seen the cabins) I have been on Pacific Dawn and few times, once for 28 days in an inside on Aloha, which has access to the rear deck, as do the others. This was great to check the weather, have morning cup of tea etc.....one flight up to the buffet:)

The Pacific Dawn and Pacific Jewel have larger inside cabins than insides on other ships, so if you can have access to fresh air and scenery quickly its a bonus.

I am sure whatever you choose you will have a great time.

Having been on both outside and balconies on Pacific Jewel I would definitely go for an outside. The cheap balconies that are quoted are probably on Deck 10 and this would have been the worst balcony cabin ever. They are smaller cabins because the balcony has been added and this has taken away from the room space and as the balconies have been added they are metal so no way to see out even sitting on the balcony. Absolutely no room with the amount of deck furniture they have tried to put on the balcony either.

Balconies on deck 11 would be more expensive, but would also be prone to noise from the pool deck above.

We have just come back from Pacific Jewel and had an outside on deck 6. All fine, but deck 5 would be my preference.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone it helps a lot.

I am still a tiny bit conflicted, but leaning ever so slightly to outside. I think for me it doesn't matter, it's more the boyfriend as he is a little less social than me.

The balcony cabins are on deck 10.

Currently looking at cabin 8124 or 8130 which I think are both obstructed views, does anyone have an opinion?

The inside cabins on 9,10, 11 are more expensive than a balcony, so probably not for us.

If we go outside I can book today, balcony and we will need to wait until Wednesday, decisions, decisions :S

Thanks again for all your help so far!

not sure where you are getting your prices from but if you put in your past passenger # an inside on deck 11 comes out at $789 pp and a balcony is $1149 pp....a difference of $360 pp

cabin 8124 and 8130 are above the bars on deck 7 so if you go to bed early you could hear some noises from the bars below

Problem resolved :)

All booked and paid for in cabin 8130...the noise won't bother us as we will most likely be making it in the bars haha

Thanks for everyone's input.

Decided against balcony due to seeing pictures of it covered in.

We liked the configuration of the obstructed view better and boyfriend is happy it's just down from the casino and bar...it will be his first ever cruise and overseas holiday. Very excited!!!

I think you made the right choice, if it were any other ship I would strongly advise to go for the balcony as there is just something special about having a balcony with that view, fresh air and light with the floor to ceiling glass windows in your room, also the balconies with glass panes as opposed to metal truss are so much better! As others have pointed out the balcony rooms on Pacific Jewel are very enclosed as they are just a small cut out through the metal in the side of the ship and the rooms are smaller as the balconies were added on later and ended up eating into the room space.
