Highlander1 Posted July 28, 2014 #26 Share Posted July 28, 2014 To the OP and anyone else with cruise experience, do you think July might be the time when more kids are on board? I don't mind kids at all, I work as an aide at an elementary school so I have lots of experience with them. I just wondered if by the middle of August more families with children are gearing up for school and not still vacationing as there are often August activities like band and football practice where daily attendance of student participants is required? Or does the time of year or month matter? Just curious. Of course anytime schools are out, kids multiply and rates rise. Least amount of youngsters is during the winter season and with cruises longer than 7 days out of cold weather ports.
emeraldcity Posted July 28, 2014 #27 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Thank you to the OP for the upbeat report. I had a wonderful cruise on the Grandeur last December and wish my work schedule allowed the space to do an encore again this December ... but there will be another chance at some point. I have sailed Grandeur six times but not since the refurb and it's good to know she is still loved. Do you have any photos to share?

SandyBShores Posted July 29, 2014 #30 Share Posted July 29, 2014 Ah, the middle couple from Love & Marriage...you cracked us up! :D To the Friends of Bill poster, I noticed meetings posted on the note board outside of the casino. I didnt take note of where they took place (or if that's how they usually communicate meetings) just an FYI. We didn't actually dine at Izumi but were very happy to find a sushi cart on the pool deck around 4pm, $9 for 8 pieces. Absolutely delsh! The one night we couldn't find the cart we went up and ordered it carryout. So you don't have to actually eat in the restaurant to get your sushi fix! lovetocruise75 Posted July 29, 2014 Author #34 Share Posted July 29, 2014 Thanks for the review! Is Darryl still the AD? Yes, but only for another week. Then he is heading to Asia
leaveitallbehind Posted July 29, 2014 #35 Share Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Yes, but only for another week. Then he is heading to Asia ...on Voyager, which will then have him in Australia. Agree with the positive comments regarding Grandeur last week. Very visible and engaging staff as well. And to those who have asked with upcoming cruises, the Solarium roof was opened on at least two of the sea days that we experienced. One quick question: Did they still have the Thriller dance performance by the guests on your cruise??

Morris4me Posted August 1, 2014 #41 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Sailing Grandeur Sept 4th to New England. Can you tell us a little about the entertainment while you were onboard? Any Broadway musicals (i.e. Chicago)? What type of musicians in bars and public spaces?
SandyBShores Posted August 2, 2014 #42 Share Posted August 2, 2014 The shows aren't really broadway caliber and in my opinion mostly missable. But the comedian, Kivi Rogers (two nights), is hilarious! The bands that play in the Centrum in the evenings (one is sort of Top 40 and the other is jazz) are great, as is the reggae band on the pool deck. Later evenings we enjoyed the piano player in the Schooner Bar who had Billy Joel, Beatles and Elton John nights. Don't miss the prime time 'adults only' game shows Love & Marriage and The Quest! heyabbott Posted August 2, 2014 #43 Share Posted August 2, 2014 If I haven't asked already, which MDR nights are most missable? Are the deck 10 loungers by the pool crowded? Sent from my iPad using Forums

There's no way to know who will be the comedian on each sailing. I know sometimes people email and ask what the entertainment will be for their cruise, but the comedian you saw may not be on GR but every couple of cruises. They rotate to other ships usually spending the first or second half of the cruise only before going to another ship, either while in the Caribbean or out of Baltimore. Entertainers transfer between ships in Caribbean ports all the time.

For those who are interested in emailing RCI regarding entertainment for your sailing date, following is the email to use: web_reservations@rccl.com (note the underscore between web and reservations). Suggest making your request 2 - 3 weeks before your departure. Also, as mentioned, there is no Broadway based show on Grandeur, but they are one of the few ships that offer the Aerial Act in the Centrum, which is quite nice.
