nae418 Posted July 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2014 Hello: I am booked on Oasis next summer(2015). I will be sailing with one 19 year old and two 20 year olds. Does anyone who have traveled on Oasis with children these ages have any ideas what these young men should expect? This will not be my 1st time on RCI, but their first time. Is there something in the Cruise Compass that listed aged appropriate things to do or is there a separate compass for teens/young adults? Anyone just back from a cruise on Oasis with young adults? If so please share. Any information would be helpful. Thank you and happy sailing Nae

Jenjer Posted July 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2014 They will not be allowed into the Teen club is for 18 and under only. Strictly enforced. But do not worry there will be plenty to keep them occupied. Pools, Flowrider, Rock Climbing, sport court. Food. Night clubs.

mommyloons2009 Posted July 28, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2014 WE took my daughter on the Allure when she was 18. It was a bad age for her because she had a friend that was only 17. My daughter could use the clubs but not the teen club and visa versa for her friend. She didn't feel comfortable going to the clubs herself. Yours have each other so they will have a good time. They can gamble. We are going on the Allure again this week. We will see if my now 20 year old feels more secure to mingle with the older crowd. :)
akcruz Posted July 28, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 28, 2014 As others have said, once they hit 18 they are considered adults in all ways except for being able to drink alcohol. A lot of ships do have either 18 - 20 or singles cruiser meet and greets. If they are looking to meet others and not having luck other ways this may be a way for them to do so. The other place that a lot of "kids" this age do meet is the sports deck. Between the basketball court and flowriders, if they are into those things, they will meet others their age. At least they do have each other to at least start meeting others. With all there is to do on Oasis, don't be surprised if you don't see them much at all!! I want them to meet other young adults in college like them and have good clean fun. Just didn't know if there's a certain place where the young adults should go to meet others. I didn't realize they could gamble in the casino. (LOL..) I did not want them to drink alcohol, althou they may try it... do the clubs card for age? Thank you all so much. TheMastodon Posted July 28, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 28, 2014 My summer vacations growing up involved cruises. My family cruises while in high school and college were some of my fondest memories.. They will find fun things to do, many of which aren't on a cruise compass!!!!!
cb at sea Posted July 28, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 28, 2014 They are young adults and can do everything older adults do, except drink on the ship. They will have a blast!

If your port of embarkation is a European port, 18 is the drinking age. I had an 18 yo who was served on a NCL Med Cruise out of Venice, but denied on an RCI cruise out of Baltimore 2 months later. She's now 21 and thinks it's the greatest thing in the world to go to a bar with her father. Warms my heart. tgnorton Posted July 28, 2014 #14 Share Posted July 28, 2014 My son was 18 on the most recent cruise and not a social butterfly but I barely saw him the entire time. Over 18 can get into the Solarium/Adults only areas so he hung out there and always found things to do. They will have a blast!:D

mon1jan1 Posted July 29, 2014 #16 Share Posted July 29, 2014 On the first day you will get a pamphlet in the room for the 18-20 year olds with a list of meet and greets and activities. We were on the Allure in March, my daughter was 18 at the time and she went to a couple of the events. She said they weren't very well attended, but it could of been for our cruise, not how well attended on other ships. She did meet a girl from Canada her age and then from there they met plenty of friends. Good luck!!!
Rare Familygoboston Posted July 29, 2014 #17 Share Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) My Allure Eastern review (linked in my signature) has lots of details about my kids trip on this class of ship at 16 and 19- since the 19 yo couldn't go to the teen club, the 16 yo didn't go either, and they made their own fun. I've included tips about where to "find" other kids of that age. You will see the strum and drang my girls went through, not being super social, and they still found a "crew" Unless you or other pax hand your boys a drink, (and there is a very stiff penalty for this, people have reported being put off the ship for sharing alcohol with minors!) they will not be served on board. At their ages, some of the ports will allow them to be served, and since they are over 18 they can leave the ship without your permission. This brings up another point- Also in my review I included a list of "expectations" I used with my kids. It was mostly written by a woman with much younger kids, I adapted it to older teens (the easiest to read copy is near the very end of the review) You might want to look it over just to have the discussion with your boys before you sail, so they know what the expectations are on board and what YOUR family expectations are. It's important they know that they can be guilty by association, and if they are hanging around with dangerous or destructive clowns, your family can be put off the ship even if they were just guffawing bystanders...the Capt is police, judge and jury and if he wants them off they are off, so I warned my girls to watch the company they keep! Luckily, they had a very respectful crew and had a wonderful time! I'm sure your boys will too! There are tons of things to do that don't involve alcohol, so if they are good at entertaining themselves generally, they will have a great time!:D Edited July 29, 2014 by Familygoboston
Rare A&L_Ont Posted July 29, 2014 #18 Share Posted July 29, 2014 They might also enjoy basket ball, soccer, flow riding, or swimming as day time activities.
