If your cruise stops at Bar Harbor, you might want to check out today's New York Times travel section: a major article, including a map, on the trails of Acadia National Park as well as the park itself.:)

Thanks for the link to the article. On two Canada/New England cruises we have enjoyed hiking the trails in Acadia. The scenery is gorgeous! Someday, we plan to do an extended visit to do more hiking.

There is an EXCELLENT book called "Hiking Acadia National Park" by Dolores Kong and Dan Ring. It contains nearly "step by step" directions for absolutely every hike in the park, including many that probably only the rangers are aware of. There are maps of all of the hikes, tips about the hikes and some great color photos. For anyone who is serious about doing some hikes in Acadia, this is the book to get. (I actually found it in my local library and just photocopied the pages of the hikes we were interested in doing.)

We ended up doing two hikes in the park--the Great Head Trail that had fabulous views and the Jordan Stream Path that we had exclusively to ourselves--except for the doe and fawn that crossed the path just in front of us!
