Birdie 0229 Posted August 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2014 What is the process with Princess for self-disembarkation? Is it something that needs to be signed up for pre-cruise or on the ship? Unfortunately, we have an early flight time out of FLL and need to be as efficient as possible when leaving the ship.

Remember NOT to put your bags out the night before. You must be able to carry everything with you.

Rare Cruise Raider Posted August 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Depending on how early your flight is, when you meet in the disembarkation lounge, ask them where they will be exiting from the room. That way you won't be behind hundreds of others. If the elevators are crazy and you have a lot of luggage you cannot carry down the stairs, take the elevator going up ... eventually, it will come back down....or try one that isn't midship. You should have no trouble this way.
Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted August 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Princess will send a form to your cabin a few days before the end of the cruise ask what you would like ...
Birdie 0229 Posted August 17, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Excellent tips. Our cabin is aft, so hopefully we can use the aft elevators.

Rare geoherb Posted August 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2014 There will be several different walk-off groups. We had the last assigned time a week ago on the Caribbean Princess, which was 7:50. The meeting place for the walk-offs was the Coral Dining Room. By the time they got to our group, they were about 20 minutes behind schedule. It was fine for us, since our flight wasn't until 11:30. You have to be able to handle your own luggage. I saw a woman trying to claim bags even though she had disembarked with our walk-off group. They would not let her into the luggage area until they had started disembarking that color group. buckeye rob Posted August 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 17, 2014 So... if my flight is at 12:45 I should be okay with the normal disembarkation ? Do suite passengers get any perks ? What does it amount to ? Thanks
OldSeaDog Posted August 17, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Rob, you should be fine. Of course that depends on your transport time to the airport, etc. Birdie, if you are somehow assigned to a later group, go see the Circle Host...he/she will be happy to change you to an earlier group. One time we requested self-disembark but were assigned a much later color group--five minutes with CC Host and voila early walk off.

What does it amount to ? Thanks Suite people can use the elite/platinum/suite disembarkation lounge. If you are "regular" disembarked, you will be assigned a color group (red 5, purple 2, etc) the night before. Put your bags out as instructed and then proceed to the E/P/S lounge (the location will be in the materials). There, they have coffee/tea/juice. pastries and current news papers. Our first experience was in February and they did a good job announcing the different groups. We were in one of the last groups to lead and they stayed to the end. U have heard that people said they did not have announcements-but I think they were either dozing or not paying attention..IMHO. It is a pleasant place to wait and the Captain circle host kept thanking us for being loyal Princess customers....
VaCruzers Posted August 17, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2014 If using EZ Check for bags, can one disembark early, or do you need to have a tag/ticket to disembark? Our flight isn't until the evening and we are renting a car for the day and would like to catch the earliest shuttle possible to pick up the car. Try and get signed up midway through the cruise, you can pick the time you want to walk off.

Our flight isn't until the evening and we are renting a car for the day and would like to catch the earliest shuttle possible to pick up the car. You'll still be assigned a "color" for disembarkation along with other "independent" travelers, usually at a later time so that those needing to get off earlier for flights aren't delayed by those who are more flexible. First to disembark are those with self-disembarkation, next are those with early flights along with Princess transfers, next are Princess tours and then those with independent transport arrangements. If you don't like what you get when the disembarkation sheet is delivered, just go to the shorex desk and ask for the color you want.

I thought this was probably the case, but good to confirm with a seasoned Princess cruiser.
